I bought a Ruger ar 556 a while ago that can also shoot 223 as it states. I went to my gun store and bought some ammo today and when I got home I read the back and it said do not shoot in gun chambered in 223 so I was wondering due to mine being able to shoot both does that still count or was it talking about a ar chambered only in 223.

Rifles stamped with 5.56 will shoot both as stated. My Ruger SR556 does not have .223 stamped on it but it will shoot it.

Just don't put 5.56 in a rifle stamped .223 and you'll be fine.

in my experience, 223 is a bit more accurate than 5.56 out of my SR556.
I think it's because of the lower pressure and less recoil.

similarly, 7.62x51 is a bit more accurate than .308 out of my SR762.
