Finally received my new Ruger American 223 yesterday. I was surprised how solid and balanced the rifle feels and the scope is amazingly clear, I have never owned a Vortex scope but it seems solid.

I am impressed by the American rifle/Vortex Scope package all this for $476 delivered seems like a steal, hope it shoots!

Just wondering how well the gun is bore sighted??

If it is a shooter may need one in 308 too ?

Ha, don’t trust the bore sighting..........but it sounds like a good package though.

Seriously, I’d start at 10yds, (if that’s possible) and make large jumps if it’s on. I did that with my RPR, I was out to 200yds in about 6 shots.

damn that bad? I was thinking 25yds then move out
Use a large target and backer free of holes, or with all previous holes marked. Even without a bore sight tool I have always been on a 18x24" target at 25yds just mounting and shooting. As long as you are steady and the hits are not near the edge you can go to 50 and then 100 yards. Just be aware that sometimes the "value" type scopes included in package deals have adjustments that take the recoil of a following shot to "jump" to their final position. This can lead to over correction and "chasing" your hits trying to set zero. With inexpensive scopes I will fire a round into the berm after each adjustment and then shoot the target. That technique can actually conserve ammo compared to watching your hits walk right past your intended zero.

Yes it was that bad and I used a laser bore sighter to do it. Turns out it had some issues so my buddy tossed it. I always start close, it elimates a lot of aggravation.

nga, by “value” you mean cheap, right? LOL. I can’t say I’ve ever had a scope jumped like you’re saying, but I don’t doubt ya.

Yes, cheap scopes is where it happens. Lower end Bushnell and off brand scopes are prone to it. I don't know what scope the OP got with his package, or if the Vortex will have that issue. Sometimes it seems that the manufacturers will contract for a lower grade "promotional" model scope to include with their rifle package deals.

thank you sir....I am thrilled with the results from this "budget" set up
what else can you ask for?? and the gun is really light and slim and handles well too. Some people dont like the plastic mag but it functioned great and is

I am big fan of vortex scopes. If I'm not mistaken they use the "crossfire" scopes on the package deals.
The "crossfire" is their entry level (least expensive) scope. I do not have anything below their "viper hs" line which is close to the center of their offerings. If you decide to upgrade start at the "viper" line and go up as your budget allows.

They have good scopes and excellent customer service if you ever need to use it.
