I got one of those 96/44's kewl guns
I think for my next lever gun, I may get the 96/44.... but I still got a hankerin for another Marlin 336, in .35 Remington. I already got a Glenfield 30A, in 30-30 and my son has his camo'd 336, 30-30 too... but there is just something about that .35 Rem I like.

Then there is the 45-70, 45-90 and .405 Win ah...... I better stop there seems to be no cure for "Levergunitus" :D

JB...

It is, according to most 'experts', incurable...I've been a victim for some time...woe, woe, woe!
I have taken several deers with that 35 it shot as good as a 3030 better I think
I wonder if this design can be strengthened to handle the .454 Casull??
i always wanted one of those Savage lever guns in .308 or 300 savage
Those 96/44s look to be great deer medicine. If they made a 96/500 or 96/480 they'd definitely be worth having too. :D
KevinCasey....me, too, in .308---missed many chances and now don't see 'em anymore...they were slick...I'd like the 96/44 but for the low capacity---last one of those I saw was $500 even....looks like a Henry .44 or Marlin .35----maybe this summer.....
Don't get into them Savages, they are a bad thing, ya can't have just one, between my dad and I we have about 15. :D

Now we know where they all went!:)
I want to pick up a 96/44, I saw one at a gun show recently for 399.00 with two mags but money was elswhere at the time.
As much as I'd love to get another Ruger, the lever gun I plan to pick up is a marlin 1895 in .45-70 govt. At the ranges you see on game in the woods of PA the .45-70 is plenty of cartridge for anything you come across. I also like the novelty of using a tang sight to lob an accurate shot out to 500 yards with such a low velocity cartridge.

When I was in high school an older neighbor (about 45) loaned me his Browning autoloader in 35 Remington. It was a sweet shooting cartridge. I don't remember the model but the barrel recoiled with the bolt for a short distance.

I wonder if you can rechamber a .357 Mag lever gun to 35 Rem. I think the cartridge length would make it a hard conversion.

Was it a Remington Model 8?
I thought Ruger offered a lever gun in .357 at one time. Is this true?
No but I sure wish they did. One in .45 Colt, .32-20, and .454 Casull while they're at it. .480 Ruger, too...!
I pickup my 96/22 Mag tomorrow, dealer just got it in and I made the mistake of picking it up.....................
