I have acquired a "new" rifle in a tang safety model M77 in .458.
Having worked up some handloads for it, it groups well at 50 yards with factory open sights. But, even with the blade lowered all the way down, the rifle still is shooting 4" high. A gunsmith suggested the front blade is too tall. He recommended its removal, its measurment, and my getting back with him. But, I can't get the balde to move. I am depressing the button and tapping the sight forward. I have applied Break-Free to it with no success. Help!

Would try a couple different ammo loads first and check what barrel twist rate you have to the ammo spec you shoot?

Try different gr weights and establish if its a sight problem or ammo, it even might be the rifle needs floating & bedding.

If you have adjusted the sight down all the way and its still shooting 4" high I have a feeling there are other factors effecting this rifles accuracy?
