There has been a lot of talk on the Ruger-related forums about problems with the P345 and Ruger's service department. I'm one of the lucky ones. My 345 hasn't failed yet and I've never had to send any of my Rugers back for repair. I had a pawl break on a New Model Blackhawk .41 Mag once. Ordered a new one and installed it myself - no problems since. This post is not intended to be a 345 yea or nea session. I think we've all heard enough from both sides and no one is going to change their opinion.
When I first got back into shooting after about a 20 year break, I started looking for a small, concealable semi-auto for CCW. I really liked the looks of the Kahrs. I started hitting all the forums I could find that were Kahr-related. If you want to see a bunch of unhappy gun owners, take a look at those sites. People are either extremely happy or unhappy as Hell. Not just with the quality of the guns, but the service department. The unhappy owners are disproportionate to the happy folks; much more so than Ruger owners. I realize that angry people are more likely to post, but there are a ton of angry Kahr owners. Maybe rightfully so - these are not economical beaters like Rugers. These things command prices in the Sig price range and folks should have a reasonable expectation that they will be reliable. Since no one can be sure what they're going to get when they purchase a new pistol, I decided I would rather pay $400 for Ruger than $700 for a Kahr. It's a matter of economics and to be honest, I've just always liked Rugers.
