We are up to about 7" here, still (barely) snowing. Friends have come by, plowed the driveway and shoveled off the patio to get to the driveway. The snow from Thursday is still stuck in the trees, we are not yet seeing the 20-30 mph wind that was forecast but lost electricity for an hour earlier. If we get the wind, power outages will become pretty common I expect.
I never got a generator because ... if the power was out I was most likely working in one fire house or another. Somewhere along the line I became old and broken, now that I stay home during emergencies I couldn't move and set up a generator if I had one. Wonder if I will be around long enough for it to be worthwhile having a fixed one installed? Of course I only think about that when the power goes out.

We still haven't gotten the 'big' winds that were called for (still in the forecast) but did manage to lose electric power for another 3 1/2 hours starting shortly after 'sundown' (like we could see any sun with it snowing all day). I said to my wife that there should be a Coleman Lantern near 'her' (used to be mine) chair in the living room. She went (in the other direction) out to the front hallway, where she has piled so much stuff that I can't even get down it anymore, and came back with the new unused one I bought a few years ago after we had been without power for a couple of days, of course she brought it piece by piece, then didn't seem to understand that it would need a propane tank (we have a bunch, in the kitchen). I suggested again that there was one under the table by her chair, probably covered in her pile of books and magazines. Surprise, surprise, she did some digging and came back with that one as well. This after me having heard banging in the kitchen earlier in the afternoon, several times, I don't know how you make a lot of noise in the kitchen but that wasn't too unusual. Went out there to see what she was doing and ... she wasn't there. Looked out the back door and saw her laying in the entryway, apparently the middle of a snowstorm was the proper time to go out in the back yard and put out some feed for the lame turkey (besides her) that has been hanging around for a couple of months, she didn't make it far and crawled back to the entryway. I haven't walked much without a cane since I tried to pick her up after she slid off of the couch and onto the floor last Spring, and I knew that our ambulance crew was already running all over town with other emergencies so ... She finally listened enough to get rolled over and on to her knees and we got her standing again. After all of that I got both lanterns running and we had light and (some) heat so things stayed reasonable in the house. If she had a 'finest hour' today it was before she woke up! Friends came back by to plow and clear off our truck, we have lights, heat and a well pump once again but I am waiting to see if we start it all over again before the storm moves out around sunrise.
I used to see Winter as a challenge to be met, now I just hope to survive it.

Hell at 48" wide I can have my driveway cleared in two passes. One down and one up, only problem is I don't know if I've got enough mass in my ass to push all that snow ... sigh ... hopefully the snow coming in Tuesday night into Wednesday is a dry puffy kind that the non green energy burning snowblower will be able to handle ...

We've been lucky here in Southern York County, Pa. the last few years. The cold fronts from the Northwest have pushed the moist air from the South that usual gives us blizzards away from our area. I've only used the snow blower once this year.

I used to do all my shoveling by hand, but nine years ago the orthopedic and rheumatology people at the VA told me I shouldn't be doing that. I cited them to my wife as my excuse to buy a snow blower.

We ended up with 12-14" of heavy wet snow from Snowmagedon 2. Parts of a Pine tree fell by my mailbox and are mixed into the pile the road plow left. Haven't gotten the 4 wheeler dug out yet, today was a range and lunch day (no one else showed at the range so I didn't open it up and shoot but three of us did meet for lunch), maybe Wednesday but I think that the 4 1/2' pile of pine and snow might be a bit much for it, might not be getting mail for a few days but it would just be bills anyway.
It occurred to me how 'green' we were being last night, heating dinner on the propane stovetop and using propane lanterns for light/heat, for several hours we did not consume a single watt of coal generated electricity! I bet our bill isn't any lower though.
It got up into the mid 30's today and we got some breezes so a lot of the snow has fallen off of the trees, maybe even enough that we don't repeat the whole thing again Thursday night when it snows again.

I got about 4 total, but only like 1" on drive and walk way stuck. It was 36 degrees most of the day! Maybe I just got lucky this time!
Well, ya live where it does that in the winter. I'd think it wouldn't be that big of a deal. It snowed here yesterday morning off and on for 6 hours. When it snows in the Desert, Now That's a big deal!

I have had the bad luck to blow slushy stuff at just the right temperature that it froze hard in the rotor and that was it, done for the day. We have 5-8 coming tomorrow, ready to go in the morning!
That is exactly what was happening ...
