I have read posts here for more than a decade. I may have even responded to a post or two. However, i really want Ruger to buikd a specific SP101. It should have a five and a half inch full underlug barrel, a full size grip more like tge .357 LCRX or Truache grips and a easily removal crane and cylinder. I want it to come with two calibers 357/38 and a 9mm. I loved my 4.2” SP 101 but hated the grips and I tried several. With a barrel that long why are they still shoeing it with conceal size grips? I ask Hogue once if they would offer the lcrx grips for the SP and they said they would put it in their suggestion box. Anyone else interesed in this same double action?

I have an SP101 4.2", a great shooter.

You might want to give one a try.
I did. Polished some of it, shimed it and enjoyed it. It was one of two guns I ever tried to get back. I held a new sp101 a few days ago and the fit was even better. However, still think that Ruger can design a way that the cylinder and crane can be quickly swapped so i can shoot both 38/357 and 9mm. Should put a better designed grip to take advantage of the longer barrel and of course put a longer barrel on it.

Not me. I have a 3⅙" 357 SP101. I'd like a 5" or 6" 357 but in GP100. GP100 has everything you want and an extra round or two.
I am not sure that an extra round or two is all that important. I am thinking that as spec’d above would have it more in line to a old Colt SA. It would point and pack really well.

I'm interested because you want it and the more guns the better; but, I don't need it.

In and around the dream-gun you describe, I've got a 6" .357 GP100, 2" .38 +P LCR, 2.75" .357 Security Six. I'm searching for a 4.2" .357 GP100 or Service Six; luckily, they already exist.

Good luck - keep shooting.

S&W tried a 5" in the model 60-18 and it seems only about a dozen people in the whole country wanted it. Nobody could really figure out what it was good for.

As great of a gun that the 4.2 inch SP 101 is (I have and love 3 of them) they are a hard sell for many. Many pistoleros think of the SP strictly as a bellygun.
If it is what you really want a custom barrel is the way to go. Or just warm up to 6' GP or Security Six.
Or find a S&W mod. 60-18 , they are pretty affordable when they surface.

with that short "stub" grip frame it pretty much the skies-the-limit to create what ever handle you are happy with that you can whittle and sand on to make it a perfect fit. I got one of the larger Hogue slip on grips in one of their fancy wood and ground and reshaped it to fit my hand exactly and then refinished it with a carnauba wax finishes to give it a nice glossy finish without it being too "slick".

I agree. That will solve my biggest problem with the four inch I had. I miss it enough to get another one. Still wish i could swap out the cylinder with a 9mm.

It sounds like what you’re asking for is a way to convert that letter ‘S’ into a ‘G’! 🤣
I am curious if any double action revolvers swap out crane and cylinder assemblies. I’ve never heard of any so of course that must mean they are definitely out there. At a guess the alignment and timing would make this a nontrivial process.

I was just thinking about that when I read the OP's post. I had one of the 60-18's. It seemed like a neat idea when I bought it, especially since it had adjustable sights, but I found it regulated to the safe and seldom used so I sold it.
