Love my Sp 101 357 3" barrel, carry it every day, 357 recoil doesn't bother my hands because of the added weight, its a tank just like the GP100, just a little lighter and better for me to carry.

Thanks for all the answers, I am a revolver fan. I have had an LC9 and had problems with it so I was not impressed with it at all. I know a few guys with LCP's but I don't really have many 380's but I am looking at one today just to fire it and see how it goes.

I have given thought about a Vaquero Sheriff's model :D, I figure with .45 Colt that should be a fine back up.:D Or maybe an old Speed six too

I have 2 SP 101s. My wife preferred the 2" and I liked the 4" so we bought both. It's nice to share the same ammo when we go shooting. Highly recommend putting a Hogue rubber grip on them. It helps with the recoil as well as the accuracy.

I have heard too many complaints about the LC9 in particular. Sad to say I would avoid this one until Ruger addresses the quality issues.

sp101

Used to own a GP100 357 6". I am sure the SP101s are solid as a rock, but I wanted something in between so I found a Speed Six 357 SS 4" for trail carry. 33 oz. and still overbuilt relative to most similar revolvers by other gun makers.

I noticed a frame stud/block on the sp101 pics above. Does this hold the cylinder in place when the crane is open? or is it just for looks? My 95 SP does not have it. I must have fell asleep under a tree, when did this happen?

exlogger, not sure what you're looking at in the photo....the gun on the right is a Single Six, on the left an SP101. I have a 94 SP101 and a 2012 SP101 and they are identical except for barrel length and location of the rollmark on the barrel. Or maybe I'm still asleep under the same tree.... Wake me up and tell me what you see?

I just bought a GP100 and am thinking it needs a companion. I have thought about an LCP or LC9 or an SP101. I prefer revolvers so my question to the SP101 guys do you like yours?
If for some reason I had to go down to just one handgun it would be my SP101, it is a 2 1/4".

Seeing all these 3" SP's sure do make me miss mine. I was able to finally pick up a 2" and am actually quite pleased with it.

With home brewed 158swc's it'll put all 5 in under 3" at 20 yards. After some trigger work courtesy of the IBOK, the trigger pull rivals my Smith's and Colts.

My bad, I just checked my SP and it does have a stud on the frame that holds the cylinder in. I never really noticed it until your top picture in post #16. Yours has a ledge that drops all the way down below the release button while mine has an isolated stud/peg holding the cylinder in. Funny how this is only on the SP. One advantage.... it makes it easier to clean out the cylinder shaft when you dismantle the gun.

It must be the older ones that have the stud/peg. Here is the one I got in 95.

I love my 3" . It's a fine companion to my GP100. I have the Hogue grip on right now to better handle 357, but I go back to the stock grip from time to time.

I'm +1 for having more than one firearm in one caliber first before moving to another caliber. If one is in the shop or god forbid, the cops need to hold on to one for a while, you have another. Plus, being able to shoot both 38 and 357 should make it easier to find ammo if times are tough.

Went to pick up my Wiley Clapp edition found out someone had come to buy it, but I already did. I also was going to order an SP 101 and they had 2 in stock that had just come in. 2.25 inch 38 Spl. So I bought one of those too. I will post pictures later in the week.:D:D:D
