Ive had my 762 since nov 2014 and its still brand new havent even put one round threw it. I was want to wait until i had saved some cash for a scope in the 800-$1000 range. but my wife is driving me nuts about using it and putting my nikon pro staff on it.

Whats a good bulk ammo that runs reliable with the 762? I was looking at bear and pmc they run around $350 for a box of 500

Watch the You Tube of Hickcock45 for some good information on the 762. Like the 556, it should shoot anything because of the gas adjustment. I don't know about the firing pin striking effect, though, on some of the Bear and Tula stuff. Of course the better the ammo the better the performance. Question. You paid a lot for a quality firearm, why would you want to shoot crap through it the first time? I would not shoot less than PMC if I were you. Just sayin'.

I've been putting Federal down range. No problems at all. I go to an LGA that seem to specialize in .308 and they always seem to have the bulk .308 brass cartridges on hand figures out to about .55 cents a shot. Sometimes is a little less.

Have some of the Russian stuff but haven't used it yet.

I run SuperX & GMX ammo thru the 762 without any issues. The SuperX is the cheaper of the two. Haven't tried PMC thru the 762 but do run the PMC thru the SR556 without any issues.

Enjoy that 762 when you get around to it. It's a really nice rifle!!!

I've run a bunch of types down mine trying to get it to shoot suppressed..... It was always over gassed... Sometime the action would cycle with the gas knob at zero...

So I gave up, guess I should have gotten a gas gun over piston. Or so I was told...

That being said I still like the rifle. It cycles perfectly un suppressed.

It likes plain old Rem corelok 150gr for accuracy. I've shot some white box 7.62 nato, Winchester, I believe, no problem... Accuracy not as good... and a 1/2 dozen other brands. All good.. No cheap stuff or steel case though. I did shoot a box of PMC.
Mostly 150 gr brass case.. Enjoy

I'd vote for PMC as the low-end stuff. I stay away from Russian ammo like I do closing my fingers in the car door.

Google 7.62 ammo and you'll find sources. Surplus NATO is getting pretty hard to find but if you DO find some it should work perfectly. Reloading it might be difficult because of the crimped primers.

Midway sometimes has it on sale, right time, right place kind of thing.

Try Palmetto, they have some NATO clone stuff right now.

I really don't recommend running the cheap foreign ammo. Often uses corrosive primers. Have seen some good studies which showed increased barrel wear.

I run Federal Lake City, which can be had in bulk at decent prices. Last bought 500 rounds for a tad over $300.

PSA has it in boxes of 20 for $13.

And those prices are better than what you quoted.

Try this web site for your ammo. 'Sportsman guide.' They have some very good deals on ammo from the Russian ammo to American made. They also have ammo that is made in Serbia, PPU, that is brass case, boxer primer with soft point or full metal jacket at good prices. I have used the PPU ammo and it is very good ammo with great accuracy. The full metal jacket ammo is a bronze alloy jacket and not steel jacket and will not cause excessive wear in your barrel. Also PPU ammo is non corrosive primers.

Has anyone run any of the the Freedom Munitions 308 ammo? I've bought a ton of their handgun ammo though never any rifle. Cant use steel core around here either so solid brass is a must.

Picking up my SR762 later this week which is also my first 308 so absolutely none in the ammo cabinet yet.

Edit.. also.. are there any best bullet weight for these rifles?

Privi Partisan (PPU) and PMC are good choices. Quality is always there with those two.
Fiocchi would be o.k. as well. I also would stay away from Russian ammo, and Sellier and Belliot, have seen some Q.C. issues with that brand.
I got a flyer from Sportsman's Guide last week, and they do have a good selection.
I load my own using new Lake City NATO brass (Federal) and Hornady A-Max bullets, but before I started loading for the .308, I bought Winchester Super-X from Walmart, for less than a buck a round.

I have read on a couple of forums about some problems with Freedom Munitions and overloads. You might do a web search. No personal experience with them.

Anyone shoot Aguila 308 ammo? My local FFL carries it and sells it pretty much at his cost to those who order firearms through him.

ZQI (Zenith Quest, Inc), also sometimes labeled Guardian, ammo is pretty good in my SR 7.62, delivering average 1-1.5 MOA at 100 yds. Easy to find online , also still at Walmart--though there was a rumor that Walmart would stop selling it. Made in Turkey, but primers are Boxer and ammo is non-corrosive. Made to NATO specs. Cost is generally around $.50/round. Brass is reloadable if that is important to you.

I second that, its a great channel and I find that if you || read between the lines he does kind of advise you of the negatives about whatever firearm he happens to be reviewing, but that he does so in a subtle/indirect way so as to presumably avoid aggravating his sponsors
