Here is my rifle as it sits now, straight out of the box with a cheap Simmons scope:

I'm planning on adding a Green Mountain Stainless Bull Barrel 18" x .920" ($127.95):

A Hogue OD Green Overmold Stock with a .920" barrel channel ($82.95):

A couple Butler Creek steel-lip 25 round magazines ($26.99 each):

A Volquartsen Extended Magazine Release ($17.95):

A Volquartsen Target Hammer ($33.95 but out of stock :( ):

A Volquartsen Hex-Head Take Down Action Screw ($4.95):

And last but not least a Volquartsen Bolt Recoil Buffer ($9.95):

Grand total: $304.69

Should give me a very nice target/hunting rifle. Then all it will need is a good scope.

FYI, my local Sportsman's Warehouse carries Butler Creek mags in both smoke and clear and metal and plastic for $24.99. I picked one up today while I was there, along with a bore snake and an official Ruger 10/22 soft case.

David, nice choice of parts for your build. Have you looked at the TI Mags? High capacity mags are problematic at best with the 10/22. The TI's are adjustable, they cost more, but I think you well be happier in the long run.

The steel lips are much more reliable! You should get good service life from them. BTW, do a little judicious shopping on barrels and parts. You might save more than you think!

I'm gonna get ahold of one of those hammer setups later....and maybe that extended mag release. I like my 10/22 like it is right now,but I'm sure I'll like it better with some improvements.

Mods Galore!

The 10/22 is the home gunsmith's dream. The entire action is held together by easily removed pins and after market parts are available from mild to wild. For Christmas one year i built my wife a 10/22 with a Volquartsen trigger kit, Fajen brown laminate thumbhole stock, Seller and Bennet stainless bull barrel, and a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope. The rifle easily plinks rimfire steel targets at 100 yards. We enjoy shooting shotgun hulls at 100 yards for an added challenge. The action is smooth and we have found that the factory ruger magazines are the most reliable. We do have a couple of the 50 round hot lips magazines for longer shooting sessions without reloading. It does take a pretty long time to load those 50 rounders though. In my opinion everyone should own a 10/22 for fun at the range.
