So I believe I read somewhere that the hogue stock for the TD lets the barrel move around since theres no barrel band and the barrel locks in differently than the standard model. Does anyone have experience with this? Id like to pick one up but not sure how a free floating barrel works on a TD model.

It locks into the receiver the same way as all other Ruger TDs. "Free-floating" the barrel is a meaningless concept in a TD because the front part of the stock is attached to the barrel. The barrel band is meant to be cosmetic only. It does not hold the barrel down. If you make the error of installing a swing swivel on the barrel band, you will pull the barrel enough to make a severe change in point of impact.

Hogue stock for a TD is just fine. If you want to use a sling as a shooting support (as in Appleseed and CMP Rimfire Sporter matches) you shouldn't buy a TD in the first place.
