So last week after I had asked him if he heard my .223 with the flash can, my side neighbor heard me and wanted to sight in his christmas present, a nice new shiney snt victor from springfeild with a very nice trij red dot.
I said sure, and let him try my two bastards first. He of course really liked the 18" and the smith and ruger was pretty nice too.
I bore sighted him at 50 yards, as I had fresh batteries in the laser and wanted to see if it would work. It did, we moved to 100 yards and poi was 2" high and 2" left. I thought that was odd, but adjusted for him and he was thrilled. Not sure what model he had, but it was a 16" very light and fairly smooth. Very nice. We put 3 mags through each rifle and called it a day. After he left, I was confused about being 2" off at 100. So I looked at bore sighter....
This is the weakness of these. The soft aluminum gets burred with too much use. Lesson learned. Good neighbors.

This little line was 2" @ 100 yards

We also talked about the large sized deer in the heards since I killed a few yotes.

madd, I started with one of those $30 laser bore sighter and had excellent results until the collet got worn. I bought a Site-Light and have used it several hundred times and it still holds excellent groups. It uses an assortment of rubber "O" rings for different bore calibers plus it has a strong magnet that literally sucks the tapered body into the bore. Here's a photo of it mounted in a MK II pistol."

Yeah i am going to get one of those units. I never thought I was tighting them enough to harm them! The other line must be from my 9's.

2”, take that as a win. Consider tolerance stacking. The laser isn’t blueprinted nor is the rifle. The purpose of a boresighterto help a rifle that is not sighted in to get first on paper. Once your rifle is sighted in, then you can use the laser to verify zero taking everything into consideration. For what it’s worth, I have the same model as Iowegan.

Well you are correct, but I had been so confident with it I told Sam "watch this".... lol. Foot mouth.

Here's a better picture of my Site-Lite. It comes with a good assortment of "O" rings and adapters from a 12 ga shotgun to a 22 LR. I normally get within an inch or two with my Site-Lite, out to 100 yards with a high power and 50 yards with a 22 LR.

I use my neighbor's white garage door to sight-in so the red dot shows up really well at night. Daylight .... not so much.

Robert70, Thanks, you had me confused (pretty normal). Both ends of the bags are still sewed shut so these bags have #8 shot. I have other bags that have been filled with fine river sand and sealed with tie wraps that work equally well. BTW, I made the pistol shooting rest out of 1x4 boards. I made 4 square filler boards that fit under the sand bags so you can easily adjust the height of the barrel versus the butt in 3/4" increments.

I’m such a caveman. I bore-sight by looking down the bore with my eye. If I can’t see down the bore, I don’t even bother. At 25 yards I shoot a cardboard box and start zeroing.

I don’t believe I have ever missed a big box at 25 yards.

I am jealous though.
Get one. They are handy for a lot of things. In a way, especially when I atart to pull my hair out, they can reveal truth.
