This time the room was stuffed with reporters, tight-lipped coaches, former players and a million memories. This time, he knew exactly where he was.

This time, it was the university that felt lost.

I like this anecdote related by Mitch Albom. I think we are all losers any time we loose a giant of a man who put integrity before winning.

Neat story - he will be a hard act to follow. We lost a legend last year at K-State...Bill Snyder. He came to a consistently bottom 10 team in NCAA Div I in 1989 and took them to top 10 status. He had a great run until 2004 and 2005. Things went downhill then and I think he was just tired. He's getting up there in age and retired this spring. The start was pretty rocky this season, but last week KSU beat the University of Texas. They really aren't as good as Texas, but on that day they were. K-State is bowl elegible again this year. The new coach, Ron Prince, is the 3rd youngest in Div I and is one of the few major college football coaches who is black. He is very articulate, fiercely dedicated and a giant of a man. I think he has them headed in the right direction.

I don't follow sports, but some of the best coaches have also been some of the best men-and the best players the best role models-anyone who can motivate boys or men to do their best and then a little bit more are special folks-the principles that make them winners win in life, too.
