I was reading another thread in the Tavern that spoke of sales tax.
Everything is taxed so darn high.
Alcohol, cigarettes are especially targeted here.
Well yesterday my daily drive was re registered.

Registration Fee $59.00
Premiun Annual Fee (personalised plates) $99.00
Motor Vehicle Tax $402.00
Total $560.00.

Now if you take away the $99.00 for the pesonalised plates that leaves $461.00.
That would make the tax at 681.35%.

WOW.....

It's gotten more expensive to register a vehicle here in Idaho...

Not to mention they've tied air quality checks to registration...forget to get you air quality check and they'll yank your registration and you get to prove you got the check and get to experience the joy of paying for reregistering the vehicle...it's a racket...lol

Sounds like where I live... California. Every time our wasteful state government needs more cash they immediately look at increasing the vehicle registration tax.

In CA the registration was linked to the smog test computers..A real money maker for all concerned at the state.

Here in Indiana we live in a county that gets a major legal kick-back from the gambling casino on the Ohio River, so My personal property tax that is part of the annual registration fee,gets a major discount each year. My 2011 Ford supercrew cost just under $230 for the current year...Tags and Tax.

I don't know what I pay for tax but I pay $535 a year for a 2008 Equinox and 2008 Fusion. Can't believe it since I was only paying $65 per year for my 2006 Focus, guess two years makes a big difference.

NH has no sales or income tax but vehicle registration includes a town tax based on the value of the vehicle and the state registration fee. For my 2006 Saturn Vue, 2007 Chevy 1 ton and a 38' 2007 5th wheel the total town tax was $422 and the registration was $274 (reg is high on the truck because it is over 8000#). Most government is local in NH as county govt is weak and the state is limited with no centralized taxes. As much as property taxes and registrations are high I don't mind because the individual citizen has more influence at the local level and can remedy issues quicker generally with less gov't arrogrance. Hey if you don't like them then run against them in the next election.

Sorry for the long winded explanation but felt one was necessary with the high cost.

$70/yr in VT, seems to go up $5 every couple of years. We just pay sales tax when we purchase the vehicle.

In the PRNJ, it's sales tax on the purchase price then depending on the weight of the vehicle a registration fee yearly, on my 09 F150 it's $75.00, on my mom's 96 Cutlass it's $45.00. Not to mention the fact that the People's Republic still has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, and that's for full serve.

OK, I'll stop griping about the $105 for two-year registration and DEQ testing. I don't live in Multnomah County, so I don't have to pay their $19 vehicle registration.

Wake Co. car prop tax: $135.00 (5 year old Honda)
Annual tag: $33.00
Annual inspection: $30.00

That is the biggest reason I don't buy new vehicles. My daily driver is a '95 F-150, $40 a year to register.

In PA you pay sales tax when you buy the car, 6%,. Annual state insp and emission test prob around 60 bucks.

Registration....tags every year @ 36 bucks.
