I'm curious too see what everyone has shot with your 10/22.. I was squirrel hunting yesterday as i was walking back to my truck in a heavy wooded area a heard a pheasant get away cackling..I couldn't see him due to brush and camouflaged in now if there would have been snow i think I would have seen him..
Lots of paper targets, tin (aluminum these days) cans, Necco Wafers, ping pong balls. Back in the day when it was allowed, dumps were an after hours shooting gallery - they were happy to see shooters show up and reduce the volume by breaking all the bottles, a reduction in the rat population was welcomed as well.
I grew up shooting a Remington 514 with open sights. Shot lots of pennies that I tried to keep moving until I could no longer see them. Aspirin, Balloons, squirrels, rabbits, bottles, cans, bottle caps, and used to even shoot paper targets at tourneys to raise money for local volunteer fire departments.
As with others, lots of paper targets, and pop cans have met their demise at the hands of the venerable 22lr.
Lots of red squirrels (they tend to chew up our maple syrup collection bags, so they are viewed as vermin) and rabbits over the years as well....with the occasional grey squirrel. When I was younger, I used to take the MkII pistol or 10/22 while deer hunting (in addition to my deer rifle) and on slow days, pop a red squirrel.
Alan50501 - you may want to check your local regs before shooting game birds with a 22lr (or any other rifle). Its not legal in WI, and if the bird takes flight, definitely not safe to shoot while in the air.
Lots of empty soda cans, rats at the town dump when I was growing up. Later in life a few rabbits and a coyote. Now I just shoots clay pigeons on the berm area at the local range with my 22's.
My .22lr rifles and handguns are used a lot. Paper targets, cans, water bottles (first shoot the caps off), clays, steel plates/spinners/flippers, and small foam items that are promos at trade shows are my usual targets. Animals include squirrel, raccoon, opossum, beaver, snakes, and uncountable armadillos.
Woodchucks mostly when they show up on the property. I hunted squirrels back when the world was flat and have been known to shoot a marauding Raccoon. Mostly just pest control. Not big on paper punching with a 22.
I gave up hunting about 20 years ago but back then I shot a lot of rabbits. No squirrels in the desert do I never had a chance to shoot one. Got one Brown Fox years ago.
Now I only shoot Steel Challenge Matches with my heavily modified Ruger Mark IVs.
Cottontails, Fox, yotes, ****, beaver, muskrats, and squirrels.
