I lost my .223 brush that was mostly wore out anyway. I am looking at an "otis cleaning kit 5.56/.223" and wondering if its worth the money over a new hoppes deluxe. I have all the stuff for my 9's and 12 ga. the small copper brush does both .22lr and .223/5.56..... a new hoppes deluxe is now 50 bucks.....and so is the otis that comes in a handier looking case with a new fangled flexible wire..... hmmmmm I think I will give otis a try, but it comes with no solvent, which is not a problem, I just think that's odd. comes with clp.

Do you need a whole new kit or just the brush? I have the Otis kit and it’s handy, but doesn’t do as well as a traditional rod with brush and jag.
I have found the kits are good to get started, but now for my cleaning duties I have acquired one piece rods along with jags and brushes and solvents as needed. So if you are still happy with your old rod and it’s just the brush that is lost and worn out, why not just replace the brush? For the price of an Otis kit, I bet your could get 2, maybe three brushes so you have another one at the ready when one gets worn or lost again.

You can buy the brushes separate, single or in 2-3 packs. I switched to Otis years ago and never looked back. I like that you can also buy Otis kits for specific calibers.

A side note, I've collected tons of cleaning kits over the decades, some came with the weapon, some were gifts. Just got a Ported M&P Shield EZ9 that came with a zippered, small hard case that fits in my back pocket and has EVERYTHING for cleaning ALL the M&P calibers. Real handy. :)

Sig M18 (black LE version) and a LNIB P345.

I ordered the Sig because none of my other striker pistols have safeties and I won't CCW a striker pistol without a safety. If it wasn't the LE black version I wouldn't have bought it. I'm not a fan of FDE but in black the M18 checked all the boxes so when one became available I decided to buy it. I also don't care for compact/subcompact pistols and the M18 is about the same size as a G19. After get it on the range I'll let you know what I think of it. I did shoot a couple of magazines Hornady 135gr +P to check functioning but I was just banging some steel targets. I already know I prefer the X-Ray sights on my Sig Pro over the standard Sig night sights on the M18. Other than that minor quibble, so far so good.

I bought the P345 because it was in the display case where I was filling out the 4473 for the Sig and the asking price was ridiculously low. I asked to see it and that was that. It's in pristine condition. Looks like it's never been fired but since I have the factory test casing I know that's not true. Came with the original box, etc. I took it home, removed the mag safety disconnect and shot a couple magazines of ball and JHP+P ammo through it. Shoots great. I paid $325 for it. Since I got it I've read some disparaging comments about the gun but my initial impression is way different than what I read. I like it. A lot. Once I'm convinced it's uber reliable I'll probably use it to replace my P226 DAK .40 S&W as my truck gun.

Hearing rumors of another ammo shortage this year, I purchased 1000 rounds of 9mm when it got to within a penny of my target goal after the outrageous run up in price. Only plinking rounds FMJ but I wanted to get back in the habit of going to the range at least once a month. Now my wallet won’t kick me in the ass so hard every time I pull the trigger.

A few hundred cast bullets from T&B arrived this week. Nothing spectacularly different but I wanted to try some coated bullets. I expect that I will like them, most people seem to, that will be a problem as I already have thousands of uncoated cast bullets that will need to be shot up to make room for 'the next big thing'.
