Did anyone catch the news from California re: Phil Spector? Apparnently the jury is deadlocked and now the judge is going to let them decide if he's guilty of manslaughter....if they deadlock on this do they go for asault and battery? I personally think Spector is a POS, but you know, he's charged with first degree murder, isn't that what the trial is about. I hate to think of the ramifications of this type of justice if left unchecked.

The jury is given instructions of different levels of guilt. If that's the proper way to say it. So if they don't think there is evidence to support the stronger charges, they can step it down and still find the defendant guilty of a lesser charge. I agree on the POS but it's up to the prosecuting Atty to prove guilt. At least that is the intent of the system. Let's not start on OJ ---------

They are probably deadlocked on the technical definitions of murder, and under the law, manslaughter is a lesser included offense. It's either that, or let him walk.
