Just got the 2006 Smith and Wesson catalog, and the thing that strikes me (along with the high MSRPs) is how UGLY Smith has made their handguns. They used to have the best looking guns in the world, but the mods they've made to them in the last few years have very effectively uglied them up. Anyone agree or disagree?

Definitely so-the ugliest was the humpback .44 Spl 5-shot---they sure don't care about sleek and smooth anymore-like a Ruger p97 or a Bisley---and the prices are not realistic. If they got real with price, they'd sell more than they can make-Baby Boomers, raised on revolvers, are coming near the age the kids are out and a little money's around to buy-the nostalgia's not gonna kick in for the new models-look how many guys here've bought M19 or M66 recently-and Security Six----just my narrow minded opinion.

I spent the last two weeks at the gun shows and all I found was a few GP-100s that were blued. Smith don't make any anymore. I don't have anything against SS but I wanted a blued 4" revolver. I found a old Smith model 19-4 and jumped on it like a duck on a junebug. Real blue, wood grips, pinned barrel, and recessed cylinder. Old ones are the best if you can get them. IMHO.

Smith still makes the Model 10, and it's a blued gun. Basically I agree; they're like Mercedes and BMW: the older they are, the better looking. Sigh.

Having said that, I think my 620 with Ahrend's grips looks pretty sharp.

I own only one Smiff and Wetton... a 4" Model 686 (no dash).

The only S&W's that catch my eye at the gun show any more are the older models. This new stuff is junk.

One S&W I owned many years ago, but sold due to a new family, was a Model 39. I thought then and still do now, that that was a really nice gun. JMHO

Had one Mod 39-then it was the best 9 to carry off duty if you were lefty-no safety to fumble-then I got a 59 and hated it-both went the way of the grocery store---making $500 month sure didn't leave much gun money!!!

Ya know, I never did like the Model 59 either.

I just bought some S&W stock, so as far as I’m concerned, they’re works of art.

Unless the stock goes down, then I’ll have to re-think the whole beauty thing.
