Why do You carry? And what?

I've noticed a few forums here asking about different reasons for carrying revolvers only or bigger more capacity semi-autos etc.
Each of us has a real and very personal reason for carrying. I'm a student of people. I'd really like to see the what's and why's behind people's ideas.
I won't judge You your choice but I will ask questions challenging your thoughts. Seriously, you do you. Will you share why with me?

Thanks!

I started every-day-carry when I managed a pawn shop in a high-crime area of a high-crime city. What I carried depended on what I was wearing and the level of threat I expect to encounter. After finally retiring I continue to carry partly out of habit, and partly for self-defense if need be. Again, what I carry depends on what I am wearing and the level of threat I expect to encounter.

I don't carry because I just don't feel the need to. I think loaded guns are dangerous. I am absent minded and lay stuff down and forget where I put it. I have nerve damage which causes me to hallucinate an see things that aren't there and not see things that are so I don't carry. I also gave up driving. Injury, age, and illness comes to us all. I see other people doing or trying to do things they don't have any business doing. I love guns, I loved driving but I got old. I am not trying to get you all to quit packing but I don't see advice on how to know when to quit or even when and why not to start. Nobody can decide this for you and nobody should try to,!! I do have some envy of you who are toting iron, have healthy bodies etc. I have enough trouble keeping my pants up without putting a chunk of iron on my belt.
Your forthright honesty and integrity is appreciated as a lesson to others who may find themselves in the same realm of life that you have reached. Peace be with you.

I have a friend that used to do security part time and he carried a fullsize Ruger 9mm, not sure model, everywhere he went, except at his full time job. When he got too old to work security he sold his 9mm and got a Ruger LCP. Only carries it when he is at home or goes into the city.

I carry a S&W model 35 chief's special with +P 135 grn Speer rounds in an IWB holster. I feel this is more than adequate for most situations I most likely could encounter. If I were to need to venture into a higher risk environment, I would carry my 10 mm Kimber 1911 in a shoulder holster with two spare magazines in the rig.

I live in a fairly remote area and even up here we occasionally run into criminals. Response time for police is over an hour.

Having gotten my carry permit I now carry the Ruger LCPII all the time except prohibited locations. I can say this about carrying it in my pants pocket has one disadvantage - it is so light and small that I tend to forget that I have it on me. This can be carried 24/7 and never tiring. Done this before with larger and heaver guns and by the end of the day felt relieved to take them off.

I was told that my carry permit would at the best be three weeks and to expect as much as one to three months. When I got an envelope in the mail 9 days after filing the papers I thought it would be for more information. I was puzzled why I got the permit to me in only 9 days. Then I began to think and remember things.

My father worked for the government and I never knew his job, I did not have the security clearance for that information. Every year they would interview our neighbors about us so they have a file on me. Later in life my employer assigned me a work area that had the Secret Service training academy. I had to fill out a form for a full back ground check. They took my photo and issued me a photo ID badge. Later for different employers I had to access various military bases, the FBI academy and CIA headquarters plus places that had no name. So my background check went fast.

You are probably spot on that assessment. I have been backgrounded for various security jobs more times than I can recall. Once in California when going through TSA checkline after showing my ID, they entered it and said I could skip taking my shoes off and the normal line everyone else was in and simply walk through a separate lone metal detector where nobody else was in line. I used to transport felon parolees back to Idaho prison for a private contractor from all over the country. I guess that may have played a part in my ez pass in airports. I also was selected to work overnight in my early 20s as a page for President Ford's staff delivering sealed communications to different people in a Hilton Hotel. I was the only employee allowed free access into the Presidential suite. Secret Service even showed me the hardware they had in their briefcases and let me sit in the presidential limo. I was definitely backgrounded for that visit.

I think the feds have files with specific tags on all of us and special codes that help them sift through our private history in order to save time. Those database farms in Utah have something on pretty much all of us and if they don't find a history on someone they research, they will once their background check is complete. :ROFLMAO:

Your Data: If You Have Nothing to Hide, You Have Nothing to Fear

Our value is founded on a unique and deep understanding of risks, vulnerabilities, mitigations, and threats. Domestic Surveillance plays a vital role in our national security by using advanced data mining systems to "connect the dots" to identify suspicious patterns.

Why We Collect Your Data
In the past, domestic law enforcement agencies collected data AFTER a suspect had been identified. This often resulted in lost intelligence and missed opportunities. But what if data could be collected in advance, BEFORE the target was known? What if the mere act of collecting data could result in the identification of new targets?

What if we could build a national data warehouse containing information about every person in the United States? Thanks to secret interpretations of the PATRIOT ACT, top-secret Fourth Amendment exceptions allowed by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, and broad cooperation at the local, state, and federal level, we can!

I usually carry a Sig P365 or a Ruger LCP Max. I'm pretty accurate with both of these pistols and they have proven to be reliable. The 9mm and 380 ACP are sufficient self defense calibers, shot placement trumps all.

Curious if anyone has carried one of the micro single stack Kahr K 9mms.

Tempted to ditch the 1.5 stack, for something even smaller. I do like the Shield Plus and have considered the Hellcat for an even smaller footprint; but I really want push the envelope in regards to form and fit. Unfortunately, local stock is lacking for Kahr arms.

I love my Kahr CW380 and have handled the K9. Nice gun but too big for my pockets once I would put it into a holster. I prefer the leather holsters from Azula. With the CW380 it sits low enough in most of my pockets that the but doesn't show in the pocket opening. With Remington 88gr HP it packs a good punch and expands quite a bit when shot into full milk jugs. Usually find it in the 2nd one with a mark on the backside of that jug. 1st jug usually splits with 2nd one having a good size hole in it.

The question the communist asked the capitalist: If You Have Nothing to Hide, You Have Nothing to Fear
Just a few thoughts;
We as American citizens have a Constitutional Right to Privacy. By Federal & State Law, the Government has absolutely no Right to surveil American Citizens. Has that Stopped or prevented them from doing this? NO.
In order for the State to spy on it's Citizens, they use a 'Secret' Court, IE; The FISA court, that has long been politicized, right along with the doj, Itel community & the federal courts. So, when anyone says: If You Have Nothing to Hide, You Have Nothing to Fear. I want 'Them' Investigated. Prove to America, they've nothing to hide.

I forget to put why I carry. Because in almost all violent incidents the police can only show up afterwards and write a report. Reports do the victem little good. the most they can do is catch the criminal later. the odds are the prosecuter will cut a deal for a lessor charge with relativy little or no jail time. Even if the proscuter goes full bore the judge may give a light sentance. Having accessed court records I can attest that long ime offenders keep getting this treatment, they know they can go back on the street and do it again. My goal with the gun is for it to end without anyone getting hurt.

Falco. I went looking online for a custom high sitting holster and in less than two weeks they sent it. Double stitched, good leather.

@Robert70 and everyone else, thanks again for your responses.
Again, Robert70 no one has a gun to your head to respond.
I like conversations with people who like to share their thoughts. If you don't want to then don't.
Would it matter to you if I started this conversation with, I'm a PhD student and looking for unfiltered responses? Because then those responses would be filtered. I am not currently matriculated in any doctoral program, and if I were, I would have accepted the full ride for my PhD in Global Economics.
Maybe I'm questioning why I carry and thought that random group thought from assumed like minded strangers might be helpful.
Maybe as I said from jump. I'm just curious.
I hope I haven't challenged anyone here except You for their response.

Why assume malicious intent, when ignorance will suffice?
