Are you sure it's walnut? Looks like maple. Here's my Burnt Bronze Wrangler with maple grips ...I recently won a bronze Wrangler in a raffle at my LGS. I purchased a set of unfinished walnut grips for it. My son has a laser engraver so we are going to do something custom, just not sure what yet.

Congratulations on the win. Now, decisions decisions decisions. Keep us posted.I recently won a bronze Wrangler in a raffle at my LGS. I purchased a set of unfinished walnut grips for it. My son has a laser engraver so we are going to do something custom, just not sure what yet.
Well the Amazon listing said walnut....Are you sure it's walnut? Looks like maple. Here's my Burnt Bronze Wrangler with maple grips ...
Haven't shot it yet but I have shot my son's. Fun plinker.Congrats on the win! How does it shoot?
I agree. Just want to add a little "personalization."Personally, those grips have some very nice grain in them, and I would simply stain and finish to my taste, flat or gloss, and enjoy them as they are.
Ok ... just seems a little light in color, I mean if Amazon says walnut whom am I to doubt them ... 🤣🤣🤣Well the Amazon listing said walnut....

I also think they look a little light for walnut but I'm no wood expert. Regardless, I like the color.
The laser engraving will only be on the grips. He is currently making custom drink coasters in slate and wood and bookmarks in wood. We're not sure how the grips will turn out.Wrangler is Ruger's low budget SA entry. I'd make real sure that it shot /functioned properly and didn't need Ruger's CS before sinking time/$. You'll be engraving through cerakote unless stripped. If this is going to be an heirloom, I'd choose a nice Single Six. Right after that, time spent with your son on a project automatically makes it an heirloom. Good luck and post pics!
That's pretty cool ... can't wait to see the picturesThe laser engraving will only be on the grips. He is currently making custom drink coasters in slate and wood and bookmarks in wood. We're not sure how the grips will turn out.
This is a coaster he did for me. View attachment 191848
It will be a darker color after you oil it, or varnish, it. I remember that from woodworking class in 7th grade. Can you see schools teaching kids that young something where you had access to table saws and planers? I didn't know how dangerous it was then. Shop teacher missing a finger on right hand was not a clue.Ok ... just seems a little light in color, I mean if Amazon says walnut whom am I to doubt them ... 🤣🤣🤣
Yes it will darken, yes I learned that from my jr and sr high school days. That's the sad part of our educational system, no shop classes not even home ec.It will be a darker color after you oil it, or varnish, it. I remember that from woodworking class in 7th grade. Our Education system recognized that the US Economy was no longer growing in Manufacturing and that Agriculture was going from small farms to large industrial operations. Emphasis was put on learning 3 more years of Math and 3 more years of Science. Computer Science was added because there is a lot more need for workers in Tech than in Manufacturing.Yes it will darken, yes I learned that from my jr and sr high school days. Agreed! Fine walnut is its own decoration!Personally, those grips have some very nice grain in them, and I would simply stain and finish to my taste, flat or gloss, and enjoy them as they are.
