JEFFERSON COUNTY • A night of drinking and movie-watching in Jefferson County took a bloody turn late Monday night.

A man, 25, was shot in the chest just before midnight Monday as he and a friend were demonstrating the best way to disarm someone with a weapon.

They had been watching the Oliver Stone movie "Savages" with two other friends at the victim's apartment in the 400 block of Thoreau Trail in the Murphy area of Jefferson County.

While watching the movie, they got into a discussion about how to disarm someone with a weapon, based on a scene from the movie. Two of the men started to demonstrate what they thought was the best way to do it, and the victim was shot with a 9mm handgun, police say.

The man's name wasn't being released. He was being treated Tuesday morning for his injuries. Police didn't say what his condition was. The victim was conscious and alert when deputies arrived, said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Jefferson County sheriff's office.

Arnhart said the shooting appears to be an accident. Deputies arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon. The case will be presented to prosecutors, who will consider charges.
