A slower powder that is listed behind Unique and BE-86. I think it is around #45 on the burn rate chart. Meters well, burns clean and is accurate. Has been accused of being big in the "flash and bang" department. 835mag's picture might support that accusation. I don't shoot indoors so I don't have an issue with it.

It has become pretty much my go to for several calibers also. I still have a pound of Unique and have been using BE-86 also. The Hornady #10 manual lists Power Pistol as the "go to 9mm powder". I'm not arguing with them. If you want a little milder, equally efficient load in the 9mm BE-86 works quite well also.

I just loaded a batch of 9mm with BE-86 this morning.

I shot some Hornady 115 HAP's and 6.5 Power Pistol the other day at the range. A smoking load that performed good from my Ruger PCC9. My AR9 was a little under sprung for them. The empties were flying about 20 feet. Normal ejection for the rifle is a consistent 8 feet at 4 o'clock. Funny because 6.7 grains is the max load listed in the Hornady Manual. So they were not even max. I fire a listed max load of 5.7 grains with a Hornady 124 FMJ and the cases fall at 8 feet. Strange.

Accuracy is good.

I had good results with a Hornady 124g FMJ in 9mm. That's about all the further I got in experimenting with the powder. Wish I could remember if I tried it in the 115g FMJ. I know I'm currently using Win 231 in my 115g loads. Also a Hornady bullet.

I first tried Power Pistol about six years ago, after reading Iowegan's writings on it. I use it for 9mm and .45 ACP. For 9mm, I use it with 124gr TMJ Xtreme bullets to duplicate Federal Tactical 124gr JHP rounds for practice. For .45, I use it with 230gr TMJ Xtreme bullets to duplicate 830-850 fps GI hardball for shooting in my 1911A1. For .38 Special, I've found that CFE-Pistol provides higher standard pressure velocities with 158gr cast SWC bullets than Power Pistol does. P-P is still a decent powder for .38 Spl loading, though.

As a side note: 30 years ago, Herco was my go-to powder for higher velocities in .45 ACP and .38 Spl. I did use Herco for 9mm, until I found AA#7. Now, I prefer Power Pistol and CFE-Pistol for most of my 38/45/9 loadings. W231 still gets used for lower velocity handgun loads, but not as much these days.

PP: Don't forget 45 Colt caliber. Just started on my experiments with PP in my Blackhawk Bisley and Vaquero's with cast bullets. Also works great in my 40 caliber self-loader. Been using PP for years. Most of the flash and smoke with PP is found on the net. Take a look at Ruger only loads with PP, Those things are a handful.

I read an article from some "expert" that it was originally designed with the .40 S&W in mind. I know 8.0 gr under a 155 gr in my P94 in .40 is more accurate than my old eyes allow me to be.

I started using Power Pistol in my 9mms years ago. Then it became my universal powder for everything from 9mm up to 45 Colt. I started to buy it by the 4lb jug, but now I haven't found any in a couple of years and I've had to reformulate my loads with powder that I can find. Yes Power Pistol is flashy when shooting indoors.

I have used it in my 40 but its kind of an upper end load ,dont really need it for plinking but good for sd or hd bullets.I have been trying it in my 10mm and am having pretty good results so far.

Works good in 10mm, 45 ACP and 44 special. Thats all I have used it in, I am sure it work well in many others. I think of it as something like Unique (NOT the same as) in application but maybe a little better.

I have used Power Pistol with good results in 9mm and .38 Super. It really performs well in .38 Super, but muzzle flash is bad - not a good choice for a nighttime defensive load. No problem otherwise.

I first used Power Pistol in my custom 6" Glock 10mm back in 2004 where I found it performed very well in longer barrels with much less flash than in shorter ones. It's my 'Go To' powder for my 10mm. So far, in almost 20 years I've gone through close to 9,000 rds of it; all hot loads.

My 'Nuclear' load is over the published max but with it, my custom Glock produces 1,589 fps and 925 ft/lbs ME with a 165grn Gold Dot bullet. I've used those loads to shoot at steel plates at 200 yds with iron sights.

Recently, I acquired a 'New,' unused 1998 Ruger Police Carbine in 40S&W. It was owned by the Columbia, TN PD and never issued. I've loaded up some 155grn Bear Creek coated, 165grn Berry's plated FP and 180grn X-Treme plated FP. I set the loads up at 95% of max to see how well they would do in in the 16.5" barrel as I'm looking for the best longer range performance (out to 125 yds) in this plinking gun.

I'm waiting for warmer weather to do some chrono work with the loads to see what the numbers are but I'm expecting about a 175-200 fps increase over my G22 based on BBI's data.
