What are they? Whats out there? What do you have? Factory? Aftermarket?

Ive notices during the past few years that my eyes have really gotten surprisingly bad and Im really needing to upgrade most of my handgun sights. 1911's are easy, Dawson Precision makes the best for my dollar and I love the plain black rear and the FO front but Im not gonna find that for any of my revolvers and their sights, factory sights, are abysmal, at least with my vision so Im trying to see if anyone has found any that are worth getting.
Im talking about a Redhawk specifically. Its been a pretty long time since Ive enjoyed shooting a particular handgun as much as I am enjoying shooting stout 44mags through a handgun I dont have to worry so much about beating to death so Id really love to find some better sights for it to make it even more enjoyable.
My googleFu may not be as good as some other folks here but I have looked around on the interweb but I just dont see much out there.

Astigmatism, yes, me too. Mine is fairly mild though thankfully and I have found that the Romeo5 has the least "starburst" of most others Ive used and for this reason alone I own 3 of them. Great little sights, almost as good as the Romeo7 but my friend I cant put one on my redhawk, I cant even make myself put a scope on my lever guns.

I think Im gonna talk with the guys at Dawson Precision and see if they can come up with something for it. Theyve helped me out with a CZ97 and like a challange.

I just need something more visible, conventional sights are ok with me but I need to see them.

I have noticed that with an astigmatism a traditional scope or low power optic, especially an illuminated scope such as the leupold firedot, seems to be the clearest image without the starburst that seems inherent on reflex sights. Traditional rifle sights and pistols can be be difficult but of them the 3 dot fiber optics seem to be easiest to use but seem to get more challenging with longer barrels, it almost seems the increased distance between sights makes it harder to focus but that is moreso a personal observation. Personally I have found peep sights the best iron for rifles and may have to try out the warren one hole rear.

I am in a pickle with my 4” redhawk as it has a pinned front and no-one makes a replacement, I would love to get ahold of the now discontinued hiviz but may have to try an xs big dot if my search comes up dry. On other firearms the hiviz had been stellar and would recommend them highly.

I havent experienced any issues with a ttad scope, lpvo or otherwise, only the RDS's with an LED projection system. An EOTech is a totally different animal as it is a holographic sight and doesnt present the same starburst issues to those who suffer from even a mild astigmatism. I believe a few models of Holosun are the same as the EOTech units,as in theyre holographic vs led projected. Some think the EOTech is too big or for some other reason dont like them, I do, theyre a battle proven sight that Id have no issue using. Theyre a little spendy vs other "red dots" but....

Ever thought about making your own FO front sight KaTo? I have. FO rods are all over my tool box and a blank from somebody like Bowen and jist see how it goes. Id get my ele fialed in first and the set up the press and machinists vice and getbout the good drills and cutting oil. How much would I be out ifbit goes awry? Fifty bucks maybe? Id have to model my FO rod journal after the Dawson fo front sights I own. I swear I thought there had to be batteries in those things, theyre just so bright!

Of course like you, I just wish more companies just made what we are looking for.

The blank from bowen looks promising! I am not confident in my machining skills but may give it a try, I have been meaning to try a rough country rear for some time now so I might as well get the pair.

I have searched high and low to no avail for the old hiviz and it seems that its either xs or custom at this point. Thankfully I have some time to sort it out before this guy comes with on a bear hunt! Thanks for the ideas!

Update for those interested HiViz still has the 4” fixed sight in stock, discontinued but the gent was able to pull one off the shelf and drop it in the mail straight away. Good times for those 4” fixed sight redhawks! Now just waiting for bowen to have a rear sight in stock to complete the build. Cheers!

I contacted Dawson about their gp100 front and they said they dont know if it will work for the Redhawk. Said all I could do is buy one and compare, if it wont work I can return it.

What are the chances it would and could I make it somehow? How different are the two, the redhawk front and the gp100? Im totally unfamiliar with the gp.

I have DP FO front sights on 3 other guns and live them. Just got one for my Henry 44mag and its every bit as bright as the others.
