Today I came upon some factory Ruger BX-1 clear magazines with yellowish/orangish plastic feed lips. I almost bought them as may be rare if indeed completely stock factory magazines, but held off for the moment. I have heard to stay clear of the aftermarket 25 rounders with plastic feed lips.

Do any of you have knowledge of such magazines? Initial runs that were later updated to metal feed lips? I thought that the originals were all black housings and that feed lips would have been updated before the clear were even released.

Should I try to pick them up for $10 each?

Have any pics? I have a few clear Ruger 10 round mag (steel feed lips), and couple aftermarket 25-30 rnd one of which have plastic feed lips.

Also, there were some early clear dealer/sales examples that showed how the inner workings worked that I heard were some of the first examples. These usually show hairline cracks in them nowadays as they were brittle. I know a guy that has couple of these, but wants a $100 a piece for them. One of them is in great shape and I hope to ”acquire“ it some day ;)

I saved pics of these pre sales mags that were posted online a few years back:

Hit wrong key and posted before I was actually done typing…. Thank you for the responses and pictures and feedback on these. I was guessing maybe a prototype but was stumped why the plastic feed lips if steel already in production.

good news/bad news. I believe there were five available yesterday. Two left today and now in my possession. Another one of my regrets for not buying something. It seems that I have more regrets on the firearm related items I pass on than I do on the "bad" purchases. It is much easier to deal with wasted money than trying to find what I passed on again. It makes sense that plastic for viewing how the magazine functions. I see that it has the slotted bolt head and black rotator which I believe were the original style. I also picked up a black mag with black rotator but it has hex head bolt.

Thanks again to all for your insight on these.
