Hey all,

I' turning 30 in a week, and since this seems like a milestone I'm buying myself a birthday present. I currently own a beretta semi auto, but I've always, always wanted a 357 magnum. I learned to shoot because I've always thought revolvers were cool, but when I first started I was a better shot with semi-autos, and the Px4 storm was cheaper.

Anyway, after a lot of research and renting one at the range, I've settled on a GP100. I'm gonna pick up the 6 shot stainless steel one, with adjustable rear sights (model 1705).

Got a couple of question for you all. I also want tinker a bit, and I'd like feedback from those who own a GP100.

1. I'm looking at the wilson combat spring kit. Anyone have any experience. Easy to install? Worth it?

2. I want a fiber optic front site. I've read that the front site can be replaces on the GP100s with adjustable rear sites. Is that true? Anyone have a recommendation for a good one? Preferably drop it, but if I need to take it to a gunsmith to get it fit and installed thats also fine.

Thanks all.

I bought the 5" GP100 for my birthday a few years ago. Hard to find a 5" to rent, but I got lucky and another guy at the range had one and let me shoot his and it was perfect for me. I ordered one on the spot.

1. Springs. Wait and shoot it a first before changing. Mine smoothed out very quickly and I see need for to change anything there.

2. Front sight. It's easy to change. There's a plunger at the front of the barrel and it's a simple swap. I'm running a HIVIZ fiber optic (green) and it's a lot easier for me to see than the stock black.

Happy Birthday and enjoy your "first" revolver.

Yes, the spring kit that you are referring to is definitely a worth while upgrade. It allows you to select the lightest weight trigger and hammer springs that will still give you consistent trigger reset and reliable primer ignition. It is something that the average shooter can do themselves with a little patience.

You can also either replace just the front sight with a Hi-Vis front sight with fiber-optic red or green glow rods, or you can also change out the rear sight blade assembly with fiber-optic green rods. I just changed the front sight on my 5 inch bbl GP100 and it makes a world of difference.

The ability for the average shooter to do these kind of upgrades themselves is part of what makes the GP100 such a popular choice.:)

Wish I was turning 30, but that's way back in the rear view mirror...anyway, I installed a spring kit from Wolff which made a world of difference and it wasn't very difficult. The sights...I want to say I used the Williams fire sights - green dots on the rear and a red dot on the front. Very easy to pick up.

Here's a pic of the of the Williams fire sights mentioned in a previous post. They are a great upgrade for a GP100 and installation is very easy. I love mine. I also went with a Wolff reduced power Spring kit and I highly recommend that too.

Thank you all for your answers.

Picked up my birthday present today. Immediately swapped out the grips for the rosewood paneled ones. Sites are my next step. The trigger is super smooth as is, might not bother with the springs. But we'll see. Might do it just for fun.

Gonna get some range time with it soon. Looking forward to it. My px4 storm feels like a child's today compared to this thing.
