Hi Point 9mm carbine question

Exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for! Thanks!!
The bold does lock back on an empty mag on the TS versions provided the magazine you use had been designed with that in mind.

Early versions of the promag 15 round mags (9 mm) had a front lip that wouldn't engage the LRHO. Unfortunately promag didn change revision numbers so a mag labled as A3 may or may not work unless you can get a close look at the mag follower and know what to look for.

I'd heard that, but have no actual experience with the newer TS ones. So I didn't want to state definitively that they addressed it. Do you still lock the bolt manually on those by pushing the bolt handle into the reciever?

I was shooting my CX4 yesterday along with my buddy with the 995. I had no problems hitting soda cans at 50 yards offhand with either of them.
Yup, the bolt is manually held open with the same bolt handle mechanism in the TS models.

The back of the promag magazine is taller than the HP version. When the last round is fired, the bolt comes forward and the ramp that picks up the new round hits the mag follower and is held open (if the front lip isn't tall enough to properly activate the LRHO mechanism).

A lot of people have thought that their promag were working correctly but as soon as you drop the mag to insert another, the bolt slams shut.

Tend to think that a mid pistol caliber carbine is kinda like open toe wading boots, 45 cuts it (just) but anything less seems ... well... less.

IMHO Unless you just want to plink with the same ammo as your auto (which is a good reason I grant you) ... get a 30cal M1. Lots of nice ones out there for about the same cost as a Highpoint (which within its limits is a VERY good value plinking carb if you don't sniggers from the buggers on the range who have not actually shot one).
another good reason to go with a standard pistol caliber carbine like the 9MM or .40 cal is the cost of ammo which is about 1/2 to 1/3 less than the 30 cal ammo.....
