I purchased a 300 win mag Predator, and when I went to pick it up at the LGS, I asked about a Standard American in 450 Bushmaster they’ve had for some months. They knocked off quite a bit on the price….. and I went home with both. I’m dinging around getting them set up to go to the range, the 450 Standard has a better trigger, and smoother action, figures…. I put a McCarbo trigger spring in the 300 Predator, and that made a huge positive difference, I’ve got one for the 450 also. I’ve been working the action of the 300 Predator while watching tv, it’s lubed up kind of heavy, and I just work the action and pull the trigger, as it’s lifting the bolt that’s the rough spot. I’m not new to bolt action rifles, but it’s been decades upon decades since I’ve been shooting frogs and Muskrats down by the creek as a youngster. I’m not a hunter, I just don’t like killing things anymore, just me, so these are range toys. I’m new to reloading, and this whole new world of shooting opening up for me. Thanks for listening.

I’m retiring, things are changing mightily in my life right now, and I’m happy to have something that can take up lots of time. Unfortunately, the range I like is 70 miles away, but is a fantastic facility, plenty of range bays out to 300 yards, a 600, and a 1000 yard stall after you qualify. Pistol competition classes, shotgun and skeet shooting. I used to be a full time member, but Blowvid19 put the kybosh on that. I like my 1911’s, and I’ve built WAY too many AR’s over the years.

70 miles ? Perfict. Leave home about 5am. Stop at a good diner and have an unhealthy breakfast. Get your spot picked out. Lay a Garand on the bench next to you. People will want to hold it and if you have plenty of the Greek ammo let them shoot it. Thats what I've done but at a small conservation range. Only 65 miles though.
That is if you like to talk to strangers. But then they aren't strangers any more.
