Finding quality holsters for rugers is challenging these days, especially a convertible one that is an Inside the Waistband AND a belt holster. After speaking with Jasen Thompson from Almont Michigan about his holsters, I decided to give his a try. I ordered on Thursday and received it the following Saturday. Pretty good for a 3 day holiday weekend in the middle and shipping all the way to California.
The holster arrived packed with obvious care and pride. When I unwrappd it the personal attention to detail was obvious. I couldn't find even one rough edge. The fit to the firearm (P90 DC) was perfect, but there is adjustable retention for those who want it.
Multiple adjustment points made personalization a snap. I admit, this is my first holster equipped with a Ulti Clip equipped IWB clip. Jasen convinced me it was a good clip and I was glad he talked me into it. I can see now how versatile it is. Regardless of belt size or even no belt at all, this thing has a hold on your pants. A quick 50 presentations in the mirror wearing simple blue jeans had me convinced.
Its also equipped with more traditional belt loops that are adjustable for almost any cant you might want to try. I imagine you could also get creative and remove the belt loops AND IWB clip to use lashing to secure it to packs or web gear. The belt loops were smooth and simple to adjust to my prefered cant. They prooved to be a rock solid anchor point as well.
The holster has a molded curve to it that fits the hip nicely. I found that it positioned the grip naturally along my side so that it was the best melding of concealment yet allowing the grip a good angle for presentations from the holster. If somone doesn't like the curve, you can always warm it with a heat gun or gently on a baking sheat in the oven to warm it enough to bend it. To be clear, I will NOT be doing this because I think the manufacturer got it right the first time.
I truly like the sweat shield guards on the holster. They protect enough of you from the gun and the gun from you that neither will be bothered and yet not add excessive material to rub your side. The outside shield covers the safety/ decocker levers to prevent accidentally manipulating one if you bump into anything and also prevent cover garments from catching on the rather large ruger levers. If someone so wished, they are easy enough to trim down to fit your taste. But I'm keeping them and appreciate the thought that went into the design that only someone who actually USES the gun/ holster combo can have.
(Please pardon the rough pictures. I snapped them right after opening the package. More will follow as updates as I wear the holster.)
