why didn't you mount the red dot on the receiver rail? the set up you're running now looks so damn high. are you going for a scout application? pushing the red dot out on the barrel like that? i've just never seen an optic out that far on a barrel before.

 

The dot location should work fine on the barrel; however, the mount looks too high. Besides not having enough down movement for adjustment, your cheek weld is going to be difficult at best.

 

Use the low mount and put on the low stock comb if necessary for cheek weld. Try attaching the red dot to the receiver to see if it zero's. If not you have a problem with the red dot. If it zeros on the receiver then there may be an issue with the barrel mount. Is it properly installed? Does it attach to the barrel or the forearm? Is it parallel to the bore? Probably just the picture but it looks canted up.
Personally I am using a 1-4x20 illuminated scope on my receiver. Astigmatism so I am getting away from red dots.

 

Even Quasimodo would find that mount excessive.

 

That optic is way too high for what you are trying to do. Rule No.1 of mounting and optics on any firearm, is it should be mounted as low as possible. Similar to this picture.

 

Yes this is how I have it currently installed, and my red dot will not adjust down far enough to zero in.

 

The riser for the red dot appears to be for an AR. ARs need a tall riser since their is no drop to the stock, it’s inline with the bore.

Why not mount a short rail onto the receiver (holes are already there drilled and tapped) and the red dot to the rail .
I did this on mine and it works perfectly ... plus is a clean low profile mount / dot setup .

It looks that way to me also. Maybe turn the mount around if the scope can attach either direction.

One thing not mentioned in the OP is what sight in distance is. The higher the mount, the further the minimum sight in distance is. With that high of a mount, you probably need at least 40 or 50 yards with the scope turned way down.

I agree that a lower mount is the best option, unless you're planning on a lot of shooting at 150+ yards. And then you'd want a taller comb on the stock.

 

Appreciate all replies. The high mount is only installed as it was my last option. I currently have the low mount installed, and the red dot will not adjust enough to zero in, therefore I believe I have a red dot issue, which I will be contacting Vortex.

 

The good news is that if your red dot is borked, Vortex will definitely get you back on track. Their customer service is some of the best in the business.

 

It looks like you have a Magpul takedown mount. You should be able to mount the Crossfire directly without the riser.
