Have a target MK III and will be getting the MK IV 22/45 Target this week. Have usually gone with CCI Mini-Mags 36 and 40gr in the III. Bought a box of Federal AM22 to try but wanted to ask for other suggestions that most like for range and general target that I should try with the idea of stocking up. Obviously I don't have much experience with 22 ammo outside of the mentioned CCI.

Personally, I don't think anyone can ever go wrong with CCI Mini Mags to break in a gun and /or feed it going forward ( for general shooting. not so much match/ bulls eye). These rounds famed for their consistency and their willingness to run in anything. If you shop right, they can be had for under 7 cents/round in case lots.
That said, while Mini Mags are my "go to" for reliably running any semi auto, I've also have very good luck with Federal Auto Match (at 5 cents/round).

I've tried the following ammo and gr. sizes in my MK IV. Bullet weight between 36 gr & 40 gr were tested.

For accuracy and overall number of FTE per 100 rounds in the MK IV, my M&P 15-22 and my old Nylon 66; the CCI MiniMag 40 gr came out on top, followed closely by:

Federal Value Pak 325 36gr

Federal American Eagle 400 pack 38gr

Federal Premium HV Match Gold Medal 40gr

The Federal AutoMatch 40gr had a few more FTE issues with my 15-22 & MK IV but the accuracy was good.

Best accuracy in the MK IV was a toss up between the CCI MiniMag and the Federal American Eagle.

Have run just about everything in mine but mainly CCI Blazer, because it's cheep. We shoot a monthly match We call i tac.22, it's shot similar to cowboy action but with semi auto .22s, and we really burn up the ammo so I purchase the cheep stuff and the only thing that has given me problems is Remington Thunderbolts.

when I got my IV target the wife gave me a box of golden bullets i burned thru those without an issue but went back to CCI Mini Mags. at my range we shoot bowling pins once a week and everyone that comes for that seems to shoot the mini mags as well. I have only had a couple of stove pipes. they run pretty smoothly which keeps the gun happy.

Minimags are consistent, accurate, and available everywhere. When I can get them at a bargain, I like federal automatch and I have found Aquila super extra copper washed (not leaded variety), when available to be very accurate and fairly clean burning Cabelas usually has it at a fair price.

Now that the Supreme Court is secured conservative for the rest of my life - and probably my kids’ lives as well - I’m no longer buying whatever I can whenever I see it. Almost all my .22s like CCI mini mags. Thus I’m burning up my stockpiles of non-CCI and replacing with CCI as I go along.

In terms of value, I do have to give a big recommendation for Aguilla stuff. Their high velocity LRN stuff goes for about $2.45 / 50 rounds and is pretty accurate and consistent in my guns. You will find an occasional defect, say one out of 150 or 200 rounds might be bent or flattened, but still hard to beat for the money.

JL,

In my MKIV 22\45 Lite experience (overall range report HERE), keeping with the CCI Mini-Mags HV CPRN, or even the CCI SV LRN, will probably continue to be a good idea for the newest 22\45 Target!

As has been said, individual .22's may really like a particular ammo, or hate it. There's been some good suggestions in this thread...just have to give them a try and see for yourself with Your pistol!!

I start with CCI Mini-Mags to set a benchmark for comparison, they feed in everything and aren't awful for accuracy. Then go through Federal Auto-Match AM-22, Federal HV Match 719, Federal Target 711B, CCI Standard Velocity, and if I'm really feeling good about my shooting, something like Eley Club or Eley Target. I shoot my Mark II off a rest to test for group size, to eliminate most of my hand movement.

CCI mini mags for first 200 rounds minimum. I personally would do more than 200. Once broke in go for gusto and try whatever.

Across the board in my .22's I've found that CCI Standard Velocity is most accurate at 50 yds and under. It is nearly as accurate as many of the more expensive match ammo (I've had the most consistent accuracy with Wolf Match Target). I'll use MiniMags if I want a little more terminal performance.
