Here's a pic of my SPR type AR. It has an 18"bbl with a mid-length gas system and a rifle length free floated hand guard.
It has a new stock and a scope now but the hand guard is the same. I was going to mill vents into the handguard but got lazy so now I'm going to just replace it with a handguard that already is vented but more importantly has threaded holes to mount rails. The only accessory I foresee adding will be a bipod QD stud. It is an SPR after all, it should have a bipod.
So here's the question. Should I go with another rifle length, which will cover the gas block, but is vented. Or... should I go with mid-length which will either expose the gas block entirely or at least poke out. I think cooling is an important issue. That's why I'm switching to a vented tube.
