Haven't seen a P95 in 11 years

My brother owned one a while back, but got rid of it right before they discontinued them in 2013. He's said a few times, he regrets getting rid of it. It was a solid gun, but at the time, I was very new with guns in 2010-2011 and didn't really get to shoot it or hold it but once.

A P95. :) A P95 is a tank.

Saw it for trade, and figured I'd have a go. It is one of the most unique handguns I've worked with. It's also a unique looker. Looks like it's from the movie Aliens.

Took it completely down to really clean it out, as it hadn't been in a while, as usual. The mechanisms are so interesting, and the extractor is something else. The recoil spring assembly is awesome. The spring retainer did pop off, and I went around online and found that it's ok, and how to re-assemble it properly. Had a bunch of what appeared at first to be rust stains. Just preservative I guess, as the CLP soaked it and she wiped bright clean, internally. It launched a pen about 4 or 5 feet up away of the gun when I tested the firing pin.

I was totally shocked when I saw the GIANT polymer slide rails. Talk about beast mode. I'm not the least bit concerned, as these things have known reputations for being almost unbreakable, and round counts that go really high. I've also read that they digest just about any ammo.

As it's pretty slick, I did add my own custom cut traction tape panels to the front and backstrap. Won't be like a wet bar of soap on hot days, now.

Anyway, I'm pretty excited with an older design. Figured I'd share and get some of the other P series guys going. It's something totally unique in the modern world I'm familiar with, of Glocks and P365s, etc. I'll have to post a range rep as soon as I can get her out.

ETA: Figured, what the heck, Call Ruger and ask about the retainer and retainer clip. I figured they no longer had parts, but I'd ask. They told me of course they still have P95 parts, and the clip and retainer are on their way free of any charge. :)

Only came with one OEM mag, and a Promag (Shocker...) that doesn't lock back. That was disclosed so it's fine. Need to find OEM mags. I'm off to Google around. I know they're out there.

I was in to 3rd generation S&Ws back when the P series was out. I always thought they (Ps) were homely looking, but built like little tanks. Kind of wish I picked one up back in the day.

As a Glock owner and packer, I still like the look and feel of all metal guns. I recently acquired a new P226 before everything left is plastic.

I like mine. Terrible trigger takeup, but it's still the most accurate handgun I shoot: go figure. Think it has something to do with how bulky it is and that fits my hands. I am glad to hear Ruger still has parts. Only thing I ever would have needed was the RSA retainer clip you mentioned that shoots fine without it.

Enjoy it.

Overall I took a little loss on it; it was fair in his favor, but I didn't wanna miss it. I read online that these are available used everywhere for cheap, just like I always hear used Police trade in Glock 22s can be found for $350. Never seen any of those deals.. Never seen a P95 in the wild across many stores. I don't know what its value really is (website info varies widely), and I don't really care. It's cool. I got a case of brass Magtech 9mm, too, plus some other goodies. :D

I used my bore sight to check sight alignment, and it's relatively centered, but it's a super combat hold. Like the front sight must cover or even be a little above what you want to hit inside 10 yards. Not the end of the world, I bet its 15-25 yard accuracy will be nuts.

I may consider putting a Wolff spring kit into it to lighten that DA up a bit. I'm sure someone like Wolff or Mcarbo makes them, so I'll go Google that, too.

G-A-G has OEM 15 round P-series mags for $30 before shipping. That's the number right there.

That's RAD. I've learned a lot, and many newer pistols are placing the magazine feed lips lower in the frame, so the round has to kinda climb up the ramp and into the chamber. This gun and magazine positions the round pretty much pointing right at it, reducing chances of feed failures for sure.

The thing is smooth like an all metal CZ is what I'm noticing. Those polymer rails are solid, and smooooth. :)

Yeah, I'll be ordering the mags soon. Probably get the Wolff spring kit and throw the 19 lb in for fun. However, I was just dry firing in DA, and it was not hard to keep the front sight on target. I have made it a point to dry fire Double Action, and get good at it. I guess I'm not half bad.

I've had 2 or 3 over the years. 40 and 9mm. They functioned fine but I never could get past the triggers. I'm far from a trigger snob but the P series triggers are pretty bad. Excellent truck guns.

I see them available fairly regularly around here. Usually cheap. $300-350 range.

Well, went back to the second local gun shop, that had the P95 SERPA holster actually in their store. Bought it. Had the mag holders, so now It's a complete OWB carrying system. Got my two spare OEM mags I wanted, and the holster I wanted. Put some of my custom cut traction tape on the front and backstrap, parts from Ruger showed up. She's ready :)
