How to remove 870 magazine tube "dimples"

Anyone here had any experience with removing the dimples on a Remington 870 magazine tube? The ones they started putting on in the 1990s to capture the magazine spring retention cap.

I've got a 2-round extension tube and longer spring for my 870 express, but obviously the dimples keep the shell case heads from sliding up further into the extension tube.

I've read the different forum posts and blogs about hammering them out with a socket or specially-designed tool, versus just drilling that dimple out.

Anyone have any firsthand experience with this that they care to share? I'm kind of leaning in the drill-them-out direction because I can see that the hammer-them-out method could create a bigger, irreversible screw-up situation. :)

Just last week I did another. Third one since the covid stuff started. I use a variety of sockets/bushing drivers up the the finished size. (I have one socket that is nearly exact. I lightly tap the outside of the dimple as the sleeve is pushed through. Zero deformation of the tube and no holes to allow crap into it!.

Thanks! I may go that route. (y)

Do you use any sort of C-clamp on the outside of the tube, in front of and behind the dimple, just to ensure the mag tube doesn't bow outward at all? I was thinking about doing that.

I put a magazine tube extension on a Winchester sxp. Same thing like your Remington with two dimples. I tried knocking out dimples with socket wrenches but couldn't get a good fit alternating between standard and metric sockets. Finally removed dimples with a Dremel tool and a grinding bit.
