125 grain at 1220'/second using 12 grains of powder:

GP100 @ 2.5 pounds -> 5.1 ft-lbs recoil
SP101 @ 1.7 pounds -> 7.5 ft-lbs recoil
LCR @ 1.1 pounds ----> 12 ft-lbs recoil

 

I HAD a 357 LCR. With 158 gr American Eagle SP, the recoil to me was brutal. It was the most uncomfortable gun I've ever fired. I traded it away as fast as I could. I am not a sissy, I have many small revolvers, but the LCR357 was the lightest. I have two SP101 357s, a Rossi 462, and a Taurus 617. They are all in the 25-28 oz range. They are much easier to shoot. I also have two 9mm revolvers, a Taurus 905 and a Charter Pitbull. These are a bit lighter, and also are pleasant to shoot.

In my experience, you will feel a substantial increase in felt recoil shooting full power 357 in an LCR compared to 9mm in the LCR.

 

1.5x recoil it sounds like. Good stuff. lol

 

I love the 158gr in my GP100, but kind of biased as I have only ever tried .38 +P ammo otherwise in it.

 

I HAD a 9mm LCR. Didn't see a benefit of itniver a J Frame for the added recoil. Sold it and am very happy with my SW 640.

 

Hey if the OP is a recoil junkie then hey get the Ruger LCR .357 it will provide all the recoil one could ever want!!!

 

I'm not particularly sensitive to recoil but my LCR 357 bites me pretty hard with defense loads (Speer 130g Gold Dot for example). I'm still working on coming up with a decent 357 mag practice load. I handload and have been working with a 125g RNFP and Universal powder. Been getting some pretty significant leading though.

 

I ordered some Pachmayr and Hogue no finger groove grips for my LCR. I know they will probably compromise concealability but I couldn't shoot anything other than mild 38 Spec or 357 loads with the stock grips. We'll see how they work.
