Yeah or I should say "used to" Bought it new with scope attached and sling included. Had a beautiful walnut stock and the gold plated trigger. One of the most accurate 22 mags I owned. Bought it back in 1972 for around $75. Unfortunately stolen by some sh**bag. Wish I could have the stock back alone the walnut was so nice. Grab it if the price is right and post a pic.

Well,I really don't need anything. Mine is brand new. I bought it at J,C Penny in 1982 when they were phasing out their sporting goods dept. I payed 79.00 for it. recently took it out to shoot. I have shot about 50 rounds with it so far.
I might install a RIFLE BASIX trigger after I shoot a few hundred rounds.

How does your wife like hers? Is she accurate with it?

 

She loves it. Has harvested a few squirrels and rabbits with it. She has maybe 50 rounds a year on it. Buying another was on her list before she learned to shoot deer.

I have the stainless version that was called the 983S. Stainless with a laminate stock. Shoots great, but I did end up putting a Rifle Basix trigger in mine and that helped a lot.

 

Thanks for the pics. Wood looks very nice. Notice they dropped the gold trigger later on. My book says this model was dropped in 1988. Sure would like to find another in great shape.

 

Love the old Marlins. ! whatever Ruger does with the company name, it willl never live up to the older ones for quality

 

That gun has slain about 40 groundhogs for me. Superb varmint gun. I plan to be buried with it.

I have a 783 that I bought while living in Iowa, great gun that is fun to shoot.
I like the iron sights and never put a scope on it. Beautiful walnut stock and no rust.

 

I have a mint 783 made in 1974 and a great 883SS grey laminate, both (JM) marked and excellent shooters. The 783 came with the Marlin leather sling. Can Ruger match them?? Only time will tell.

 

I had to apply polyimide tape on the sling to protect the leather where it rubs on the metal.

Here's a tip.
If you have to tape on glass or leather or metal buy yourself a roll of polyimide tape.
it has a special adhesive that's good to 400 degrees and doesn't leave any glue residue when removed.

 

Thanks for a fine pic mopar. The bluing looks great too. Recall the stock even had a walnut sticker attached to the forend when I bought it. Those gold triggers were a nice touch.

 

The walnut stocks on the older Marlins are absolutely awesome! Marlin must have had their own walnut forest to produce so many stocks for all their rifles.
