Hello All,

New to the forum. I have a new (less than 100 rounds) all stock 10/22 carbine. After I shot my 10th round the other day, I dry fired the rifle to ensure I was empty (Ruger says ok to dry fire). When I went to insert the new mag, I pulled back the charging handle and it got caught about half way. Was difficult to release the mag but finally got it out and was eventually able to release handle. I didn’t see any evidence of a round that jammed. I did the same scenario agin (dry fire after 10 round) and it happened again. Then I only shot the exact 10 rounds, loaded a magazine, and the charging handle pulled back fine. Is this normal. Is there a different procedure to follow when loading a new mag after dry fire? Also, when I dry fire at home I notice the charging handle is a little stiff when bringing the bolt back. The charging handle seems to move back and forth smoothly while the bolt is back.

Thanks in advance for the help and yes, I have read the manual.

There are only two things that will cause the bolt to resist in that manner. Cocking the hammer, or the bolt somehow hitting the magazine feed lips, which I highly doubt.

After dry firing the rifle, cycle the bolt without the magazine. Then dry fire, and cycle the bolt with the magazine inserted. It should feel the same. IF there is more resistance with the magazine inserted, then look at the forward edge of the magazine feed lips, and you should be able to see where its hitting.

If the bolt feels the same after dry firing, with, then without the magazine, you are feeling the hammer cock
