Welcome from Southern Illinois. This is not going to go over well and I don't practice such behaviour. But, I have friends who never break their firearms down to clean. A simple swabbing of the bore and toothbrush/Q-Tip in the chamber and their done. Much to my dismay they are quite happy and proficient shooters with no more malfunctions then anyone else. Enjoy.

 

check out you tube, there are some very good ones on the 22/45, It really isnt that hard once its been done a few times.

I hope the gunsmith atleast showed you how to reassemble the thing for 60 bones

Once you figure it out and do it a few times its not half as bad. Also it will loosen up slightly over time.

 

I wish he had. Thinking about asking my marksmanship instructor to go over this with me next time I see him. I know he knows these guns well. Even if I use up half of my "lesson" on this it's still cheaper than another trip to the gunsmith.

I'm sitting here agonizing about needing to clean it. With the low price of ammo for that thing, I have no qualms about putting 150 rounds through it in a single trip to the range, and it's so much fun to shoot!

I am an obsessive gun cleaner and every other pistol we own gets cleaned after every trip to the range, but they all field strip in much the same way and are super easy. This one not so much. Everyone says it's worth it in terms of accuracy though.

I think that within the Community of Ruger-owners there is a special fraternity (even a blood-bond) among the 22/45 Mark III owners who have all had to bleed and hammer away on their first virgin re-assemblies (and possibly a dozen more).
