Not if it’s just a plinker or range toy. But most people that would consider a gun for a CCW want it to be able to eject a dud round or light strike without having to drop the mag, as that’s likely with .22lr
I guess my point is that this isn't an ideal self defense gun.
1. .22LR
2. 22LR DOES have a higher than average failure rate as ammo compared to centerfire ammo.
3. A rimmed cartridge is designed around a revolver; not a semi auto

I'm not knocking it AS a defensive gun; I'm just saying that to a point, these are issues you will have to deal with using a .22 for defense. Any gun and any ammo can fail at any time. Most of the time, it will be the shooter that fails IF using quality ammo (a must for a defensive weapon) and a well maintained tool (also a must IMO).

I realize you're saying that it could have been designed better. What I'm saying is that I view this as a training tool to work alongside the .380 version. If you choose to use this as a primary defensive choice for whatever reason, these are the issues you run into.

Follow up to my post just above during dinner. I'm reading my second article now on the history of .22. Fascinating.

Here's a quote from an in-depth article by Chuck Hawks whom I trust. (I lived in his town for a while, but never met him.) The underlining is mine.
Sorry Kathadin, my point #3 was not so much based on historical elements as the fact that it is a rimmed cartridge, though the history you provided here seems to back up the assertion. Thanks for including it. it was a good read.
