Ruger Job Fair

Not really sure where to put this, but I thought I'd let guys know that Ruger is holding a job fair this afternoon at it's Prescott Arizona factory. They must be running around the clock trying to keep up with unprecedented demand.

I'm thinking about going, if nothing else to go on a tour of the facility. Prescott is the next valley over, about 50 miles away, so I'm not certain I'd want to move over there ( cost of living there is a lot higher due to all the out of staters that have flocked there to live).
They are calling it a "drive thru" job fair, so maybe they are taking groups of prospective employees through the plant in golf carts, for safety and security concerns. I doubt they'll allow photos during the tour.
Should be interesting.

The job fair at the Newport plant is in a parking lot across the street so don't get your hopes up for a factory tour

I worked there briefly years ago. Ruger does not hire directly, they use an agency that employs you. If you make them happy after 6, 12 months or more, Ruger might be inclined to hire you on. Expect long hours. I walked after a couple of months. I didn’t like the supervisors breathing down my next. Good luck!

Thats most plants process. I used ti work for a huge faucet company years ago. I was hired straight in, however after that they switched toa temp. agency. You had to work 6 to 12 months before you got in or got let go. I worked their 4 years and left to go to the FD. Main reason job security. They will always need firefighters. But the pay was grear. You had productivity to make each day, if you eere above 90% you got paid extra on top of normal pay.. The more you produced the more you made extra . They had great benefits, but it had some tough jobs. Was trained and did all but 2 jobs in the facility, they liked to move you around to spread the load of work.

I miss the people, dont miss the job, but i did like working there, just didn't want to live in fear of job security in a big manufacturing or distribution plant.

Would love to see the inside of the ruger plant, and a few others too.

Let us know how everything turns out. Having Ruger on a resume would make for an impressive resume job experience. I have never met anyone who works at the Prescott factory, but closer to home I have heard some good things about their facility in Mayodan, NC. That they work hard and run a tight ship. I was also told Ruger pays their employees well and offers a competitive benefits package. Don't let the long hours (that is every job in manufacturing) or 50 mile commute deter you. That's nothing. I currently commute 35 miles each way to work and use to commute closer to 60 just a few years ago. When the pay is good, the commute goes by quickly.

Give incentives to produce as much as possible during your shift ? Sounds like a good business model if the company is to turn more of a profit to it's shareholders, but a bad idea if you are trying to turn out a high quality product.

I'm guessing Ruger firearms might cost more if production was slower, but they could turn out firearms without burrs, chatter marks in the chambers, and other issues that would cause the firearm to be sent back right after the customer receives it.

Well i did work QA for a while, they would get defective products in, melt them down for scrap and make new ones from it, so i guess that was exceptable. Yes the pay for productivity was nice if you wanted the extra money. Some didnt and just wanted to meet standard. I wanted the money, so i worked harder.
