Looking for another .45 acp pistol, and noticed the Rugers mentioned. Saw a few shaky reviews on the SR, may have been early production. Held one, felt alright. I recently saw the American in an ad, local shop, $430, thinking that's a great price, and size about where I'd like, seems a bit bigger than a G19, smaller than a 1911?
Would like to hear peoples experiences with both guns, trigger, reliability, accuracy etc...I have a mini 14 and .308 rpr, love how solid the guns are, and appreciated Ruger replacing my mini when it died without any issue. Any comparison to G19, M9, 1911 a1appreciated.

All good choices

I have a SR9C, American 45 and a SR1911. I like them all. I would say the American is a little more robust than the SR9 and easier to take down. I would give the American a slight edge over the SR9 but I'm not getting rid out either one.

The SR1911 is great and of course all steel and the heaviest of the 3. Hope that helps.

I had one of the first sr45’s and it shot flawlessly. The ergonomics on the SR pistols fit me perfectly, so Im a fan. I sold it last year, because frankly it was boring to shoot. Shot accurately and reliably every time. Soaked up recoil on heavy .45 acp and was pretty comfortable to shoot. It was well made and the matte stainless finish was tough. I would consider buying another one if the price was right.

I don't have a RAP in any flavor but I do have both the SR45 and the SR9.
They are both excellent firearms and so far have been 100% reliable with all ammo I've tried but mostly my handloads.

I have handled a RAP in the store and It felt OK but I prefer the feeling of the full sized SRs.

The wife said that if I ever have to shoot a bad guy behind her, she really hopes I'm holding my SR45. We are both that confident in it.

I have the RAP45c and am very pleased. I am a Ruger person so it just fits me. Most of my collection is Ruger and I can't say anything bad about any of them. In my opinion it's better in shot recovery than my Springfield Armory XD® Mod.2® .45ACP Sub-Compact.

Nice to know. I have an SR40c on the way and was planning to get a RAP45c after.

I have shot quite a few of the SR series. Consistently good shooters. Never had a failure with any of them despite the fact that half of them were range guns. Have not owned any. My dad does own the SR45, which I have fired a few times and he loves it.

I've shot a few RAP's and own the compact 9mm (1300 rounds fired). Again, they all shoot fine and feel very well made. If anything, they are more sturdy than the SR series, but they are also heavier if that is a concern.

If weight is not a concern, save a few more dollars and get the SR1911 .45. Heaviest of the 3, but also the best shooter. Comparing any striker fired pistol to a 1911 is really not fair. My full size .45 has over 2500 rounds through it; my 9mm officer is about 900. Neither has ever failed. Both are very accurate for me and I prefer that 1911 firing system.

In my opinion, all 3 compare favorably to either the G19 or the M9. Of course, those are both 9mm pistols

Appreciate the input folks. Guess I'll just have to take a good look at the SR and RAP at the same time. Have and enjoy my 1911, but wanting 10 round mag. without the extension. Not wanting to pay 1911 price at the moment either, and seeing the RAP for $430, and SR was around $100 less than a G21 really got me looking. Looking mainly for a backup falling plates/action pistol gun, and possible carry gun at times, though in general my G43/19 serve that function. Finding 9mm has an issue knocking the plates down, and as I may have mentioned, like at least 2 guns in each cal. that I have....

The Ruger SR45 was what Glock was trying to build when building the G21 but missed.

I've had both and still have the SR45, not the G21.
The only thing the Glock had in it's favor was no manual safety and I just ignore the one on the SR.

Oh, and My SR45 is more accurate than my SR1911 steel cmd.

I finally found a RAP45c locally to hold and get a real feel for. I loved it, so I'll definitely be ordering mine ASAP. It was somehow more compact than I thought it'd be for some reason. Got to handle and SR40c as well, which was nice since I ordered one and it arrives next week sometime. What didn't blow me away was how much the store had the prices marked up. I got the SR40c for about $320 roughly and they were asking $500 there. Blew me away that they'd price gouge their customers that hard.

I recently bought a RAP 45. . So far so good. Grip feels weird on my thumb knuckle, nothing to complain to much about. super easy to take down and clean. Don't like certain ammo though. Had problems with 185 Hornady and 200 gr led semi wadcutters. Still new though. 230gr stuff fed reliably and shot pretty good. 185 gr Hornady shot great patterns , but had a few FTF. Still getting used to it, but it shows promise. I plan to stick with 230 gr ball for practice and HP for serious work. Don't want to change what's worked for so long. Load it up like John Browning designed it and roll with it.
