Hey Everyone!

New here, but figured there is no better place to ask Ruger-related questions. I have a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull. It seems a shame to me to not shoot long distance with a round that has the capability to go the distance. I really want to put a scope on it, but i really have no knowledge of pistol scopes. What do you guys recommend considering the scope will be dealing with punishing recoil?

scope or red dot ? .... we decided to go with an Aimpoint on our Redhawk 44mag .... recoil was a concern and Aimpoint handles it well .... it is lighter and much more compact than most traditional scopes .... we find that to be a major positive when used out in the field .... if you want a variable power option, the Micro H1 isn't for you

I got a real nice SS US made Weaver years ago. Think it was a 2.5x, cant remember. Anyway, I have a 7.5" barrel. I just could not get into the scope.
Maybe a rail and a Bushnell TRS-25, or if ya like spending money an Aimpoint Micro. Also theres the Burris Fast Fire that you can get a Ruger mount adapter for. Although I havent tried it myself, its gotta be better, easier, and more natural, since it lacks magnification. Also, allows for good vision.

Have Super Redhawk in Ruger .480 and went through the same dilemma several years ago about what to put on it. Immediately eliminated Red Dot due to magnification limitation and most of all batteries so came down either fixed or variable EER scope. With handguns its a challenge just to get a good shot as well as the ballistics limitations for shots the further out you go so didn't think a variable would be of any benefit. Also the higher the power magnification the more amplified the weaving and bobbing on trying to keep a good sight picture. A fixed 2x gives adequate magnification for anything out to 75 yds which is my self imposed range limitation. Therefore went with Leopold fixed 2x due to their reputation for withstanding heavy recoil and lifetime warranty. Hope this helps in your quest.

I've got a SRH 9 1/2 inch in 44 mag that I put a Nikon 2 1/2 to 8 scope on. I've only shot it standing so I find I like the 2 1/2 setting. I guess I'm saying a fixed scope is probably the way to go with a revolver. I like the Ruger scope rings a lot. Wish some of the hogs that used to tear up my property would come back before I get too much older to shoot the thing.

I'd go with the Leupold EER, they're not too expensive on EBay lightly used. I had one on my 9.5" SRH .44 until I sold the whole rig to fund an Alaskan. Very high quality.

I'd either go with a high quality US made optic, or at least a good Japanese manufacture. I don't buy Chinese made optics any more, not worth the hassle and they don't hold up.

Some good suggestions. I found a BSA for $80.00. Gonna try it out. I saw a lot of good reviews including one guy who put it on a .460 S&W Mag with no issues. I think that's a good sign it can handle the .454 Casull. I figure for that price, if something goes wrong it wouldn't be a big loss. I have read a lot of good reviews about Leupold but don't have enough $$$ right now. But the BSA will eventually get replaced with something nicer. In the meantime, it'll get me used to a scope and also help me learn what I like and don't like for when I upgrade.
