I doubt she will want to live in the trailer for months on end. But I bet we both volunteer at state parks.

I remember the amazing joy of reaching "double digit midget" status (not to mention the transcendent state of being a "single digit midget"); the last time I was in a combat zone, however, I went home (with a brief stop at Landstuhl RMC) before I even made the "double digit midget" point, so I missed out on all that.

When we got to less than two weeks, we had "short timer sticks". One notch for each day.........broke off one piece of the stick per day. Not to mention "flaunting" the stick in front of the NCO's......

The reason I mention this is because my wife has 288 days before she retires and I'm hearing the countdown already. I tried telling her about the two digit midget rule but she isn't listening.

Tell her to not count them until it can be done on the fingers of one hand
(TRUST ME, I know the hard way).

 

The title to your thread Two Digit Midget..........I first though you were talking about Obummer darn glad I read more whew!!

UH OH!!!! Another "entitlement" taker coming up!!! LOL Just kidding. Congrats to you & your wife. I'm sure she earned it. My retirement just kind of happened. Was at work one day & said "Can't take this anymore" & that was it. Never went back!

I think she still have the first dollar she earned as a kid on her paper route. She will retire with 36 years at the U of W.

 

My daughter-in-law graduated from law school at the University of Washington. She is now an Assistant Prosecutor in the Tacoma area.

Well 303, since you're already retired and have the time you ought to draw her up a nice "short-timer's calendar" , hang it on the refrigerator door and give her a black Sharpie so she can begin marking off the days. Yeah, 287 days is a bit early to be called a short-timer but hey, after 36 years (13,140 days) she's entitled to start a bit early.

 

When she is "short" enough to play handball on the curb, then she can really start the count down

 

303, that'a a term that I have not heard uttered since I got out in 86. I smile just thinking about it, cause anybody that ever used it was smiling! Then, of course you became a "single-digit midget" and people new you were really a short-timer!

 

I can remember people just yelling "short" at random.

 

Make her a short timer's stick. When she carves the last day, welcome her back to the "world".

 

As an advisor in Viet Nam, it was # of days and a wake up. You were really short and headed for "the real world" when you yelled, "A Wake Up!"

 

"The real world" isn't something I've heard in a few decades. How about freedom bird?

My wife won't let me have a gun room but I can have a hobby room and my hobby is guns. Go figure. I noticed she referred to it as a man cave the other day.

This is one room in the house that is all mine. She doesn't ever empty the trash unless I put it in the hallway.

We were called short timers, and wore a Seagrams VO ribbon in the uniform lapel to brag about it.

Now days, everything is short it seems. Like months, years, weekends and holidays. You know what I mean?
