Using Redhawk gold dot/ V notch sight?

Ok I have a quick dumb question....

I have the gold dot - V notch sight set on a 6" GP100.

I "lollipop" the gold dot right on top of the notch, is this right?

But, to get 158 gr .357 to hit to POA I have to adjust the rear sight up so far its almost off the threads of the elevation screw.

Are these made to regulate just for .44 Redhawks?

Or am I missing something?

I have plenty of GP's with standard rear sights and red insert front sights, I was hoping this gold dot front sight and v notch rear set would work with this GP.

Technically it does work but I think its unsightly to have the rear sight cranked up so high it looks like its about to fall off:)

Reloads or factory ammo? What's the velocity? If they're underpowered, the other solution is to ramp them up so they're going faster.

I seem to recall that Redhawk front sights are somewhat taller than GP sights. I think Wiley Clapp and another individual wrote an article in the late '80's or early '90's detailing that they filed down a Redhawk front sight to fit a GP albeit it was one of the multicolored plastic ones.

So it sounds like you have the bottom of the gold dot sitting level with the top of the rear sight blade. You may need a taller front sight to lower the front end, is there any room to file the front sight ? I would call the manufacturer and first make sure your sight picture is correct and then ask if other sight heights are available.
Lower front or taller rear.

No you can't file them, its a round dot gold bead.

I nestle the bead right into the notch, I was shooting 158 gr Blazer .38 to test it.

I'm wondering if 158 gr .357 will hit lower.

I could probably zero it to 110 or 130 gr .38's but I prefer to shoot 158 gr lead through it for target shooting.

I was debating selling this gun off since I have so many other Ruger DA's, I figured I'd play with the bead sight before deciding to sell it. I've never done much with this gun and just use it as a "range beater".

I'll keep playing with it, that's part of the fun, changing things until something works. Too bad my "experimenting" costs $20 a box these days :)
