I saw a great deal on a ruger 10/22 and jumped to buy it. In my hast I didn't realize I bought the optics ready version of the gun. This version of the rifle comes with a weaver rail premounted and has no iron sights.

The gun works great with a scope but I want the option of iron sights. It would probably be easy to mount a rear sight if I remove the weaver rail that comes with the rifle. However, the front sight is more difficult. From what I can tell there is no way to attach a front sight to this barrel.

Does anyone know a way around this? Either clamp on iron sights or some type of adapter?

You could try the NDS-44 that clamps on to the barrel. You'd then need a Nodak Spud rear. Not cheap but I've heard good things.

Cheapest way to get iron sights would be to get on eBay or Armslist and buy a barrel takeoff. A lot of people buy a 10/22, upgrade all the parts, then sell the takeoffs (I plead the 5th). I think this may be the target audience for the optics-ready model (aren't they all optics ready? I think it should be called "optics-only").
