What are your Favorite grips for GP 100?

Sorry if this is a topic that had been beaten to death here, but I am new and have not seen any such thread in the recent post history.

I recently purchased a GP100, and I am wondering what the many sage posters here feel is their favorite gp100 grip.

I have found I do not like the stock finger grip hogues that come on them now. The bump on the rear side "sticks out" in my palm and feels unatural. I also don't like the finger grooves because they force my fingers into a lower grip on the revolver, which i feel would affect accuracy and natural pointability. My fingers tend to want to be right over top of the "points" of the finger grooves.

Since I want to be able to get a higher grip, and do not like finger grooves, I am considering the Lett/original style checkered grip combo from Altamont, currently 44 bucks on their website. I have also briefly considered the 80010 non-finger groove hogue as a cheaper alternative, now $21.56 on ebay. I wonder, since the cut behind the trigger guard on the 80010 seems to be in the same spot as the stock finger groove, would i be able to get a high enough grip on it?

Sorry for rambling and thinking out loud, just wanted to include some pertinent information.

Which grips have y'all found successful and unsuccessful? Any tips or suggestions to help me in my quest to replace the finger groove hogue grip?

Thank you all in advance

I opted not to complicate matters, my Smith and my Ruger both came with Hogues, which I would have purchased, if they didn't. You either love the grip Hogue gives you, or you don't.

OTOH, I have had some success with Altamont grips. A little pricey, but
well worth the money. Well made, smooth, great fit, last for years.

Guardian...welcome aboard...and congrats on the GP100...it's one of my favorite revolvers!

I have, somewhat, smaller hands and the larger Hogue's do not fit in my hand well at all...on the other hand, I have a college bud, who's 6' 6" and he LOVES the Hogue grip...to each their own!

My personal grip preference, for the GP100 and the Super Red Hawks (they share the same grip peg and, hence, the same grips) is the older-style, smaller-size, Lett Rubber grip with the SP101-sized panels (see avatar.) I've found they work well, don't slip, and hold up well in all weather...great for camping / hiking / home & personal defense, and for EDC purposes.

I have become a fan of the Altamont grips, they have a couple choices of patterns on the rubber & many different inserts.
I believe they also supply Ruger & other makers with custom grips.

And the factory ( altamont’s) on the Wiley Clapp.

Between my GP100 22 and GP100 Match Champion I prefer the ones that come with the GP100 Match Champion for both fit and look. Granted I only shoot 38 and not 357 but that has more to do with my hands than anything else so I don't know if I would be as much of a fan of the wood grips if I shot 357.

I also don't like the finger groves on the OEM Hogue grips. My first improvement was to "dremel" them off with a sanding drum and that did help a lot.

The final fix was to buy a pair of the "Match Champion" grips from ShopRuger (the 20% new gun discount coupon helped) and those have been just great.

I have no experience with Altamont grips on a GP-100 but have them on my MkIV and they are very well made. Their Walnut Target grip for the GP-100 looks very promising.

I settled for the nylon Hogues on my 3” GP100. Thinner than the rubber or wood versions.
The finger grooves are correct for my paws, I may eventually sand down the tail flip but so far it’s not a hindrance to concealed carry.

My favorites are the original Lett's style rubber and wood panel grips, but I never really had a problem with the Hogue rubber grips. I would like to get a set of Hogue wood grips for my 5 inch bbl GP100 but just don't want to break loose with the coins to get one.

I like either the Hogues without the fingergrips, or the original grips with inserts. Liked them enough to get both for my GP100 in 10mm. The wood rompers were nice, until I sent some 200 and 220 gr hardcast loads down range.

The Hogue rubber grip is ugly as sin, but very functional for me. It absorbs some felt recoil, which isn't a huge deal. The best feature is the shape. While not necessarily the most comfortable, it does lock my firing hand grip into place. The benefit of that is that I don't find myself adjusting my grip between shots. The older style grip was much more prone to slipping slightly in my hand during firing.

Thank you for all the responses everyone. Range Dog, so you prefer the snakeskin or checkered finish on the altamont lett style grip?

I had also thought about their walnut target grips, but i haven't found any reviews or videos about them so I wasnt sure about taking a leap of faith on them.

I do, all of their “ treaded” type grips have a nice feel, without imprinting your hand.
They remind me of the old packmeyer grips that everyone used on the Colt pythons , but much softer.
Have a look at their sight. Mine took a while to get, but definitely happy with them. Also bought a nice set of wood silverbacks for a j frame smith from them.

I wish ruger would go back to putting the letts as stock grips on new gp100 instead of the huge, clunky finger groove hogue mine came with. Now, I have to spend another 50 bucks to add them to the gun. The hogue must be cheaper for them to buy or something. Anyways, my plan is to get the altamont checkered lett style grips in a month or two, once I get soke Christmas stuff paid off my credit card I ordered a pair of no finger groove hogues to put on my gp100 in the meantime, since i could get those for 21.50 on amazon w/free shipping.
